Stripped/Missing nuts in the windshield frame
 

The nuts in my windshield frame are gone, so there is nothing to bolt the top to. In exploring options, I came across these riveters that use a type of nutset. Has anybody used them? Thoughts?

I see them all the time in my pop up ads, looks like a great idea for a stripped out/missing windshield nut.
I have many uses for the tool but yet to get...

Yeah, I originally saw one on a social media ad. Found one on amazon for around $70 with inserts. Much cheaper than the social media pop up ad version. I may pull the trigger on one and do a thread about it

I'll have to check it out on Amazon.
Seems like a clean sound result for the missing nuts. I learned long ago to tackle top hardware very gently and always use anti-seize compound.

Are you talking about the two nuts nearer the center of the frame? If so, I think this would work for that purpose.

I have been using them for 20 years and they work great. Just make sure you get the nutserts for drilled holes and not punched holes. The drilled hole ones have ridges on them to grab the material better since the holes are not true round when drilled. If you have never used one do a few practice ones in some scrap to get the hang of it. Depending on the gun you can and will break the mandrel if you squeeze too hard and it will slip if not squeezed hard enough.

Good deal. I guess the rivet tool is really unnecessary, unless the metal cloak rivet is softer?

Two bits of advice regarding nutserts:

1) Use steel not aluminum nutserts.

2) Tack weld the exposed rim of the steel nutsert to the metal panel it is installed in. This will guarantee that it does not spin on you in the future.
