Yeah, pics? However, I don't recall any "Limited Edition" badges on any of the '67-72's. The truck-buying public didn't care, back in the day. They bought these trucks to use as, well....a truck. The only limits that I can recall was how much you put in it and who you let drive it.

Heres a picture of the two, and a different one from my truck for comparison. The paint on the 'G' is gone because Im going to repaint and polish them, but I thought I should find out what Im really working with. The second pic, is the back of them. The top one is my old one, and the bottom one is the "Limited Edition".

Re: "Limited Edition" Emblems?

Personally, I wouldn't paint them.
I have never seen anything like these but a
collector would probably not want to have
them in anything but the "raw" state.

Just my 2 cents.

Very cool emblems! :metal:

Thats kinda why I stopped at the 'G'. And if anything, I was going to finish one, then work on the other, so just in case, one is restored, the other isnt. Because if these are real, then I wouldnt know what to do. If they're fake, then Im just going to restore them.

Re: "Limited Edition" Emblems?

They kind of look like the door handle emblem off of a newer Lincoln or something. They don't fit the GMC emblem very well.

they look like one of those awful eddie bauer conversions for the f word 150's..... maybe the dash emblem or somthin, huh?

Re: "Limited Edition" Emblems?

Looks like an over-lay on the stock emblem.....after a little prep. Someone liked their GMC enough and had probably done a few things to individualize it...and got caught up in the "Limited Edition" craze of the Seventies/early Eighties....

Re: "Limited Edition" Emblems?

I remember when they used to sell those exact same "limited edition" stick-on emblems at Autozone. It was also when they sold those white painted sawblade wheel covers.

Ya, but the ones from Autozone are not the same as these. These have like a layer of rubber over it. But I dont know. Only thing I can think of is if its from a 50th anniversary, but I dont know if they were different.

Crazy thing about GMC. It started life as The Yellow Truck and Coach Company. I had a '38 GMC 1/2-ton, when I was in Tucson. I need to do a little more research and I can pass it on.

Established in 1923 as a subsidiary of the Yellow Cab Company, Yellow Coach was one of the most important names in the bus industry of America. Before becoming a division of General Motors in 1943, it was renowned for its many innovations to its products.
The Yellow Coach name was retired in 1943 as GM divisions were revised during the wartime haitus in bus production. When production of buses resumed in February 1944, the buses were identified with GM nameplates.

xxxxxxxx

1909 - General Motors acquires the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan, the predecessor of GMC Truck, and Reliance Motor Truck Co. of Owosso, Michigan. A Rapid becomes the first truck to conquer Pikes Peak in 1909.

General Motors Truck Company (later known as GMC) is organized on July 22, 1911, to handle sales of GM's Rapid and Reliance products.

1913 - All GM truck operations are consolidated in Pontiac, Michigan

1925 - Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing Company is organized, with General Motors Truck as a subsidiary and General Motors Corporation holding a large interest.

1943 - General Motors acquires all assets of Yellow Truck & Coach, and the GMC Truck & Coach Division is formed.

So, I guess that GMC as a brand, compared to the General Motors Truck nameplate that was on my '38, didn't become the brand name it is, until '43. Does that make the '93 GMC a "50th Anniversary" version? I just don't recall any hype from then.

Re: "Limited Edition" Emblems?

Peel the Limited Edition decal off. Somebody put it on there. The GMC had a thin aluminum plate that 1500 V-EIGHT ot 2500 V-SIX etc., and that factory plate has been pulled off and somebody stuck the tacky LE emblem on there.

Ya, after I got them, I started looking as close as I can around the box, and it looks solid like my other ones. Im just trying to do some research before I go any farther with these. Ether way, they would look better on my truck. Makes it more unique. And thanks so much for the rad.

I remember the thread and so does too much stuff. Maybe we have the name "Ernest" wrong? Anyway, that's why we kept asking if that's where you got them. They are definitely not original. They are definitely made using a generic sticker. GMC definitely never made a "Limited Edition". And,GMC's 50th anniversary was many years before Chevy's.
