Steering column identification
 

Just bought this... guy wasn't 100% sure on year and if I need parts, or when, I want to make sure I order right numbers. All I know is it is 70ish. I like the look, looks stockish for a 1950 3100 that I put a 3 speed auto in.

Tilt
All metal, even indicator. Heard some were plastic.

The shift lever was bent down so I bent it up, look right? Took measurements too. See pics.

From 67-72 are the parts all interchangeable?

It is a real truck tilt for 69-72 Chevy and GMC

And if I order parts for it... i can look up say, a 70, and be good?

Ok, I removed the steering wheel. The instructions I had just in case, mentioned a lockplate and a tool needed. But there is not a lock plate. Is this because 8t does not have an ignition switch? Did all 67 - 72 year Chevy trucks have ignition on the dash? What year did they start using lock plates in columns for trucks? 73?

yes the switch did not go in the column until 1973.
you will be fine ordering column parts for a 1970.

Thanks, I was told I was missing pieces after wheel removal. I was a little worried.

Let me make sure. There's a pic with wheel off. And a pic of small pieces. Ignore bottom two pieces, they go to 50 wheel. I saw a pic of a guy who molded a 53 wheel to an 80s column I'm trying to see if I can copy him.

Anyways, if I'm not missing anything then this is how it should go together right?

Spring slides on
Next is horn piece, not sure of name, contact?
Then wheel
Then the thin metal piece with 3 holes.
Then the cup with plastic piece inside held down by three screws.
Then the washer in the pic... not sure in this one.. right spot?
Then nut
Then horn cover.

Am I right? Right order and not missing anything?

It appears that the bearing retainer is missing at the end of your column.

I'm not sure if the links below will answer any of your questions, but they provide schematics and lots of good info on the tilt columns. I've rebuilt a couple tilts using this info as a reference.

Thanks! I've printed the pics and assembly pages. My column doesn't feel loose. At least on the bench so I hope there isn't much to replace. Do you guys recommend any cleaners to use for inside?

So I got the column somewhat fitted into place and it looks good.

What part is used to hold the column in place on your trucks? Im wondering if I could fit it somehow on my 50 dash or if I need to fab something. The part that covers the wires keeps me from using the parts that help up the 50 column... Also, is there a spot that a piece goes in to keep column from sliding down?
