15" Rims with disc brakes ??
So the corner of the caliper rubs the inner rim.
Does anybody know the best way to fix this? It will spin but rubs the rim. I guess the two options are to grind down the caliper and or the rim. The caliper being easier I should start there, just wanted to see if anybody has solved this problem? The 18's fit great but I like the 15's better. Just ordered these MT's for the fronts. http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...6653/overview/ |

You don't post much info about your setup but if you are running the stock steelies with disc breaks in front they will not work, you would need a set of steelies from the 72-87 year trucks in order to work with disc brakes.

Re: 15" Rims with disc brakes ??
I'm running 15" car rallys and have the same problem. What I did was use a 1/8 inch wheel spacer and ground down the caliper. I dont like spacers but in this case its only an 1/8 inch and it made it so I did have to grind much at all. just my 2c

I believe I have read that a 5/16" spacer will clear the caliper... grinding is the other option, remember if you grind your rims, also do the spare.

Re: 15" Rims with disc brakes ??
I would not grind the rims. You said they'll spin but rub, so it's only a minor clearance problem. Just grind a bit off the calipers. I did that a long time ago so I could fit 15s on my K20, and it's never been a problem. Dunno how thick the caliper castings are but apparently there's plenty of material there to start with.

Re: 15" Rims with disc brakes ??
The answer is to use 71-87 15" rims. 70 and prior are drum brake wheels and they are tapered differently on the inside. 71-87 fit the stock disk brake caliper. If you are installing bigger than stock caliper or bigger than stock dia disk, then you will need aftermarket wheels. I wouldn't grind caliper or wheel to make it fit.
If you converted to 5 lug - 71-87 C10 wheels will work. If you converted to 6 lug disk - 71-87 K10 wheels are what you need. |
Re: 15" Rims with disc brakes ??
6 lug disk, CPP calipers.
there is lots of steel on the caliper corner so I will grind that down a bit and try it out. I would like to keep the oem 67 rims for sure. I put it on a spun it by hand and it left a small scratch all the way around. |
Re: 15" Rims with disc brakes ??
I'm running 14"x6" with a spacer on stock '72 disc brakes with no grinding.
