NOW AVAILABLE! Reproduction spare tire carrier bolts

3 Attachment(s)
SOLD OUT! SOLD OUT! SOLD OUT! They’re here! I am in process of sending PMs to everyone who expressed interest in advance. If you are new to the thread, please feel free to reply in this thread. New pics are on page 3 of this thread, including a side by side NOS & my reproduction. I tried to get as close a match as possible to the GM plating, which appears to be a dull white zinc, not the bright bluish zinc you see everywhere today. Price is $45 shipped for one within the US, $87.80 shipped for two within the US. Essentially $41.50 per bolt, plus shipping, so let me know other quantities or if to Canada and I'll get pricing. Add 3% for PayPal fees. Thanks!

Collecting interest on reproducing the correct 69-72 Blazer spare tire carrier bolt, GM 3991023 per GM catalogs. These were a unique length (6-7/8”) and fine thread (7/16-20) carriage bolt that would accept a lug nut. I have a bid from a US bolt manufacturer to produce these, and now need your feedback on deciding how many to have produced - especially since there are 73-up versions out there that are not correct but work for 69-72 so people use them. Price point to make a minimum run will be around $45 shipped but the price will get better if I can make a larger order, so let’s hear from you!

Pics of an NOS bolt are below.

Also thanks to cericd for the pics below plus 1rippen6 for help with the NOS example!

I thought there would be a lot more interest! I’m hoping I can get enough to warrant producing at least 50 as I’m looking at paying a hefty initial setup charge regardless of order size.

Randy are you on Facebook? Maybe a post in the 69-72 Blazer group would get some more interest.

Yes I’m thinking the same thing, planning on posting there tomorrow.

Any more people? About 10 more interested between here and Facebook gets me close enough to take the leap of faith on producing these.

Are these the same as the in_bed tire carrier for trucks too? Anyone know? Thanks Trevor

I’m not an expert on the truck mounts but my 71 book lists the same GM part number 3991023 carriage bolt. They also used lug nuts best I can tell.

Here’s a truck catalog page from ‘71. It shows 3991023 as the part for fleetside side mount carrier. Second is a GM catalog from ‘79, where Blazer’s bolt was consolidated with 3991023, because all of these bolts were different lengths but were 7/16-20 fine thread. GM notes cut to length when using these bolts. The reason I am choosing to reproduce the 6-7/8” length that matches 1rippen6’s NOS bolt is it covers everyone using both stock and bigger wheel/tire combos.

Thanks BlueBoy72! Got 6 more interests on Facebook also. Need just a few more and I’ll place the order. My plan is your interest here or on FB guarantees your place in line to obtain bolts out of the first and possibly only run. I’ll probably only produce 25 extra because I’m just an automotive manufacturing engineer, not a business that can tie up any serious money in inventory or has a website to continue sales indefinitely, etc.

If it helps I'd kick in a deposit. Maybe others would too?

Thanks for the offer but it’s not an issue of me funding production of our “I’m interested” or “I’ll take ones”, nor do I think members here are going to waste their time indicating interest now then not buying. The issue is trying to get the production quantity high enough so can get to the target price point we would be willing to pay. 50 is needed to be able to meet a $45 price point. But if I produce 50 and only sell 25, I will be in the red by many hundreds of dollars. So I’m counting on 25 interests now as enough for my leap of faith that I’ll sell more than 25 over a reasonable amount of time, at least enough to get to a break even point. Make sense?

Excellent, I’ll place my order with the bolt manufacturer on Monday. Quoted lead time was 3-4 weeks, plus 1 for plating, plus shipping time. I’ll give everyone updates as I get them. Thanks!
