I hear ya on being tapped out budget wise right now, I'm waiting on my tax return now lol. My water neck is a 45 degree but again I cheaped out and bought the summit racing polished one. Definitely not as good quality as a Billet Specialties one but it will do. I had the same one on my 72 and it looked great.

I think your motor looks great as well, I love the orange. I was going to paint my waterpump orange but it came with a very nice black powdercoat so my dad talked me out of it. He was like it matches the rest of the black on the motor. I plan to add a little more shine too when I go with a march serpentine system.

The Edelbrock classic cast air cleaners look pretty good. Either the oval or round one would look good, just personal preference as to which you like more.

Any time to work on the truck recently? I saw your post about the vw color....I think that sounds cool since it'll be the first one of our trucks done with it!

Dad and I have been studying paints, how to mix and technique. We had my grille very very close to perfect and the clear coat reacted a little. We're going to re-blast and try again.

The engine and trans are bolted back together and ready to drop in. I am just waiting for a decent weekend to clean my frame rails back off so we can bolt it all back up.

I will be using a color called Speedway white for the grille and top. It is a creamy white color off a 2001+ Corvette. It almost looks white but it a very cool shade .. like a Vanilla color.

I am a bit undecided on the color of the truck as this will be my first true all over paint job. I want something different and I saw a VW at the airport this morning. I could just see it on a 68 stepper. It is a silver'ish blue color called Horizon Blue. I'll post up some pics in a little while. It would be killer with the cream color and my gray wheels / black buckets. :metal:

A contrasting color that I like is, an off white, that appears to have an ever so slight, tint of gray

That's okay...I'm 33 and when I got my hair cut this week the lady asked me if I wanted her to take out all the gray? I said no....I want some hair left please ;)

Grille and engine look great!!!

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

That's the 'Speedway White' color. I really like it. That's just the base and man it layed out like velvet. BUT As soon as we sprayed the clear it had major Solvent Pop. I'm not sure what we did wrong but something went nuts. My grille is at the blaster now, we're starting over with all PPG stuff. DP Ecoat, K36, 220/400/500 wet block, DBC, and 2021 clear.

And, yes .. in a booth this time. :D Dad has a friend with a fully equipped booth in his back yard shop. He said we could use it anytime.

Your powertrain and grill looks great! You'll be back running in no time. On the gray, be glad you have it :( better than no hair at all

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

Thanks for all the compliments! I can't wait for spring. I'm going today to buy more white DBC base and clear. I'm going to talk to them about the Omni brand .. we'll see what happens I guess. I just don't know enough about the paints to really know the difference yet. Just trying to learn.

There's something about driving a car / truck you know you did all the work. I have paid for paint jobs too (high end paint jobs, and several trophies to show for it) but quite honestly I just can't afford it right now. I know it's expensive to buy the paint too but I have always wanted to learn how to paint. One way to do it !! I'm jumping in with both feet. It may not be perfect .. but I'm not perfect either.

Just something Dad and I can enjoy and go to local shows, etc.

I'm trying to come up with a door logo for my truck. I want something that looks Vintage, but still follows the So. Cal 'surfer' look. Just an old Hot Rod but still paying homage to my old man and all the Hot Rods we have built together over the years. Which one do you like the best? I think I like the one on the left .. but I like them both :D

I like the top one you came up with. There are a ton of threads with shop trucks/patinas/rat rods, but since yours will be much nicer than that 'look' maybe something like this? Not exactly SoCal/Surfer, but still cool imho. As for the tagline, your truck won't be 'half fast' or 'half-a$$ed' since it'll be sporting a big block with nice paint & body!

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

That is awesome too. I'm not really doing the 'Shop truck' thing .. but just a shiney Shop Truck if that makes sense? Worst case if I mess the paint up too bad I can just Faux-tina it.

BossHogg69 01-13-2012 03:37 PM

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

Yeah, I kinda know what you're going for - like you said a shiney shoptruck. Basically a nice driver/hot rod with a logo on the door. Yours will be much too nice to be a considered a parts chaser or shop truck, that's why I posted a logo that was shiney and not patina'd or faux-tina'd like a lot of the trucks that are following that trend.

I like the top one.

What about a vintage board shop logo instead of hot rod shop?
