I can not get my back up light s to work. I have a manual transmission and i checked the bulbs and everything and now i'm onto the wiring the problem is that i can seem to figure out which wire is my back up light wire. I have looked in a book for a wiring diagram but i go cross eyed when i try to read those things please some one help me.........

What year, make and model?
A typical back up circuit would consist of Fuse >> Reverse Switch >> Lights >> Ground. Start at the fuse and follow the circuit until you lose power depending on what you have the reverse switch could be on the steering column, shifter or gear box.

are you not able to track the wire from the socket at the rear of the truck up to the tranny? and find the switck//it requires you going under truck

I have had the switch on the transmission go out on 2 different trucks. If you have a SM465 it is up high on the transmission and is hard to see. As I recall it was hard to find a socket that would fit. It has a 2 wire connector plug going to it.

the easiest way to replace that sitch is to pull teh hump
it's like 12 bolts to pull but worth it for ease of acess

the switch is like 8 bucks at napa or any major chain

now the things to check are ( i jsut recently went through this)
make sure the plug for the 4x4 indicator and the reverselights are not swapped at the "switches" they are the same...
(ive done that)
now the wires go to a hole in the frame, pull back the plactic protector around that spot and check to see if the wires are damaged

now you also can check from the switch connector to the bulbs with a multimeter for short or an OL (open circuit, meaning broken wire)
