Anyone successfully re-dye the plastic door panels??
I took all my door panels off, gave them a thorough cleaning, and despite some solid scratches on all 4, they'd probably look perfectly fine (certainly not new) if I could re-dye them the shade of blue they came in. Has anyone successfully accomplished this?
My other thought, which would be significantly more expensive, is to take them down to the local upholstery shop, and have them covered in the same shade of blue vinyl as the dash, then reinstall the chrome trim ('72 custom). Thanks! |

I have sprayed a couple of sets with SEM plastic and fabric dye. If I do another set I will use the plastic prep spray first. The parchment set I sprayed saddle and they came out good. The blue set I sprayed black and they have places where the black is coming off. If you accidentally scrape it with your fingernail it scrapes the black off. I think the prep spray may prevent that. I'm not sure what colors the SEM comes in any more. I have a few partial cans of it. I will have to check and see what color they are. I need to spray another set of door panels anyway.. LockDoc |

Much appreciated....looks like they have a few different blues based on the web site

I also used SEM spray. Used their prep first. Color was saddle. 20+ years not one issue.

Hi, I did my parchment door panels with SEM prep and then paint. They came out very nice. They prep is the key. You could try a clear after. Good luck. Sorry on pics.

Thanks Woody....when I pulled the arm rest off, you can see approximately what color they were originally. I'm actually not married to the color, and might go with whatever is closest to the interior painted parts.
