Rubber piece over rear bumper

There are remnants of a piece of rubber screwed to the body that I believe filled the gap above the rear bumper. Does anyone have any information on this part? I didn't see anything in the assembly manual.

its a strip that keeps trash out from between the body and the bumper. i found one on the net, i will post it once i dig it out my parts stash. also its showing in the assembly book...

Re: Rubber piece over rear bumper

I still have about 3/4 of my original rear bumper filler strip, it appears to be a thin corded (like a tire) layered rubber piece, with a steel bar holding it with screws against the body.

I have searched for a replacement but only have found plain rubber ones, they would not last a year in arizona. I've been on the lookout for some old conveyor belt material or large diameter rubber hose to make a replacement.

I don't believe they are available. I took a piece of the material to a local metal shop 20+ years ago and had them make me an aluminum one. It covers the straight part, but not the corners.
I'm not sure if you can see it clearly, but here is the piece of aluminum I had made for a shield on my Suburban. Looking across the top, and near the bumper bracket

I used a reproduction 56 Chevy car strip, worked good but of course isn't quite long enough to go to the ends.

Re: Rubber piece over rear bumper

I bought a repo 57 chevy car rear bumper strip, but it was just plain rubber, without the layered cording. i didn't think it would last in the sun and i doubted that it would hold the curve that the original has as it goes under the lip of the bumper.
was the 56 strip layered rubber?
i want to see what pic pimpston65 posts.

The 56 piece is just like the 57 but is wider. it stands straight up until the bumper is mounted then I tucked it under the bumper. Still under assembly stages so not sure about durability.

go to a local rubber supply house - like belting & gasket material place ?? or maybe a local water jet or laser guy - they might know of somebody or company that sells rubber material ?? i used to work for a company that made cement -batch trucks -they had lots of rubber in stock ?? they used it for conveyers .gaskets - handle lever covers - if you get a piece -that strip should -let you slid the rubber in it -might take a screwdriver to pry the slot apart -then sqeeze it back together- good luck
