Aftermarket Fuel Gauge?
 

I have an 88 C1500 (350,4spd auto)

Woundering if there was an aftermarket fuel gauge, that I could get my hands on and by-pass the stock one. None of the gauges in the stock cluster work, as far as I can trust them anyhow. New cluster? aftermarket fuel gauge?

Your thoughts?

Ive searched and someone did it and put it in their ashtray, but that gauge is no longer available thru Summit Racing.

Just verify you have the 0-90 tank sending unit, IIRC you have....

Easiness of install depends on where and how you decide to mount it, I didn't want a extra gauge in sight is why mine's in the ash tray. They come with a wire diagram so hook up is easy.

I would try doing a new gauge cluster or figure out why your having so many problems with yours first. But that's just me I like to be able to keep an eye on what the trucks doing while I am driving it ya know.

I bought the gauge... my dash needs replacing... I like to get a newer "needle" dash instead of the one I have.. nothing works proper.. oil pressure tops out... speedo (as the PO told me) runs heavy (?) .... volts tops out as well... But I need a fuel gauge... thats very important!

Now do I have options on where to hook-up to the sending unit? Is there somewhere other then dropping the tank for hook up? relay?


Had to instal a new distrib in it so it would start... I replaced the fuel filter which wasnt the problem... live and learn!

You can trace the sending unit wire up to the firewall and tap into it there, No need to drop the tank. Also, no relay is needed for the gauge....

Where would it be coming into the engine bay.... does it go into the fuel pump relay juntion box on the upper passenger side of the firewall?.... purple wire?

My gauge didnt come with a direct wire diagram for this truck.. or any vehicale

Just replaced the starter... $600 into this project so far

Your 88 may be different than my 97, Mine ran up the left frame rail into the left side of the engine bay then into the cab under the master cylinder.

I had access to the sending unit to see which color wire was for the gauge unit, If you don't have access see if you can find a wire diagram for your rig. Then trace that color wire like I did....
