Front brake calipers
 

I was watching an episode of Car Fix this week and Lou and Jared were upgrading the brakes on an '89 Chevy van with truck parts. They were installing dual piston front calipers that were direct replacements for the single piston stock calipers. Does anyone have any info on this upgrade? I didn't see any reference to the parts in the credits of the show.

There were no dual piston stock calipers that I'm aware of, so it was probably aftermarket parts they were using. I'd check Jeg's or Summit for kits for your truck. A quick search yielded single and quad piston caliper options.

Calipers couldn't be stock, and these trucks need bigger rotors more then anything.

Not sure if you want to upgrade a van or 88 to 98 truck. Heres the truck option by Ssbc. Quick change talked about earlier.It has a new dual piston caliper. Not probably what you looking for. This is not for everyone kinda expensive at $750.( this kit uses your stock rotors and bolt to your factory caliper brackets).If your looking for affordable brake performance.You could just go with drilled slotted rotors and ceramic pad. I got mine as set on ebay for $150 and it gave me way better stopping power. Or another more expensive option by az properformance is 14” revelator at $995. Its a really nice kit. But you have to have heavy duty spindles.

My current setup on the front is stock calipers with Brembo disks and Performance Friction pads. I rehabbed my brakes last year although the photo is actually from five years ago. I thought the show was interesting because it featured what looks like an upgrade with aftermarket calipers better than stock. My truck already stops pretty good since I also have a Stillen rear disk kit on my back axle. (That kit is no longer avail. and the calipers are Aus. and obsolete.) Not sure what I'm going to do for brake pads on the rear...

This pic is five years old although my brakes were redone last year with the parts mentioned in the previous post.

The only oem thing with trucks is a light duty vs heavy duty caliper, the HD version have a larger diameter piston otherwise identical to the LD version.
