Got the system pressurized up front.

I think the SPID is gone; last i looked.
will look again.

Plans:
I will remove the original 402 engine and T-400 and install a 496 i just had done.
Rebuild an extra T-400 I have and add a GearVendor to it.
I'm going to pull the HO72 in it and rebuild that at a later date.
I have a 14-Bolt 3:42 Posi rear to install into it.
Just waiting on the leaf & shock mounts to be relocated on it.

Otherwise I am going go thru everything on it.

Very nice Longhorn! I have one in my garage right now that is probably close to the same as yours. It is a pretty optioned up C30 Super too. Here's a pic of the spid.

Nice!
Wish mine was a bucket seat truck.
This will be a slow rebuild
But each weekend we will get after it

Re: 1972 c/30 bb longhorn

Anyone have any idea how many Longhorn trucks were assembled as C 30 builds?

Cool
Thanx
But like everything;
a breakdown of vehicles optioned would be ideal and difficult to provide.

Nice resource

Re: 1972 c/30 bb longhorn

I got into the right rear brake.
I'm going to need to find a replacement drum as it was scored badly beyond usable.
The wheel cylinder on this side was leaking.
Need to locate a replacement spring for the top bar below the wheel cylinder.
It broke as I removed it.
That's it for today

Here is also a pic of the springs I need...

Re: 1972 c/30 bb longhorn

I'll work on getting it dug out and getting the hub off as soon as I can.

Re: 1972 c/30 bb longhorn

All good here
No rush
I found a 12" drum but I'm still digging for a 13" one.
All this takes time

OK...
So I'm looking for a replacement 1972 issue GM 13" rear brake drum.
Part # 48716 is present in the 1972 drum; actually shows ---> 48716 4.
Here, in the pic below , is a comparison between the 1972 drum on the right and the 14-Bolt 13" drum on the left.
Both use the same shoe width.
The 14-Bolt drum is thicker where the hub is installed; maybe by approx 1/8".
The backing plates are identical except for where the pin goes thru.

We are going to try to install the 14-Bolt drum with the 1972 hub installed and see if it can be used.
The original 1972 backing plate is currently installed for this trial install.

14-Bolt drum installed with shoes in place...
It fits without hitting anything
Factory studs are too short with the thicker drum

While I am awaiting for some of the new replacement brake parts to arrive,
I decided next to remove the driveshaft assembly.

I don't recall ever seeing these before on prior trucks, but at the carrier bearing, the securing bolts have a bolt with a drilled hole into then using a slide pin as shown :
