If you have some spair time could you take one of those mirrors off and measure all the holes , there should be 3 .. You would be saving me sooo much time :)

Re: sport mirror mounting
Just put them where YOU like them. I removed the dumbo mirrors and put them on, sat inside and put them where I liked them

Re: sport mirror mounting
Thing is .. I bought the backing plates and they only go in one place

This is for a 72. Mine is a 77. I'll still pull mine tomorrow if you need the measurements for the later model.

My mirrors only have 2 screws that go into the doors, and 1 screw that goes through the chrome from the rear. (End facing the door handle)
From the front edge of the door the first screw is 7 & 7/8" (Put the wrong number on the drawing) and the second screw is 10 & 11/16". From the horizontal break in the door skin the holes are UP^^^ 9 & 1/4". The mirrors on both doors are in the same place. It doesn't look like there is any sort of backing plate inside the doors. Just 2 sheet metal screws through the bracket into the door. Let me know if this works. Doug |

There is a "soap dish" reinforcement that goes inside the door, behind the holes, effectively doubling the thickness of the sheet metal. It looks like the bracket in the top of this photo. K http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8...068f81e9_c.jpg |
Re: sport mirror mounting
Okay. I just didn't get into it far enough to find the inner bracket.
