My son picked up this beauty about a month or so ago....It's in pretty decent shape. It's a '63 gmc, 305 v6, 3 speed, and a 12 bolt 5 lug leaf spring rear end..? we already swapped the 8 lug drum front end parts over to 5 lug and disc brakes, using the old control arms, spindles and cut coils from my '86......just what I needed is another project! but it's a really cool old truck.

last weekend I removed a few leafs from the rear spring pack. It dropped it a few inches and softened it up a lot....but still needs to come down a lot more to level it out. got a flip kit and c-notch ordered to fix that...

yeah...I was thinkin that when I let it down. I'm guessing the stock gmc coils were 3/4 ton...

....since we needed new calipers, pads, and brake lines, we ordered the d52 caliper kit for the front. not sure how well they will work with the single master/clutch cylinder...I'm guessing not great....I'm also going to rob the power steering linkage out of the '83 c10 in the back forty...that should solve the tie rod issue, and the crappy steering.

Very nice. I'm thinking it is going to get a lot closer to the ground by the looks of the others. Lol

Hows it drive having moved from the drum setup to disc? I'm still deep in my project, but one of the things I'm doing is going from 8-lug drum to discs on all corners, and am curious how it feels.

Project looks great by the way. I'm partial to the slight rake it has now, but to each their own.

That's awesome! One way to really wake up that 305 is to put a 4 barrel on it with dual 2.5 inch exhaust. You'll have so much torque and not enough time to shift. lol

where the hell would I even find a 4bbl intake for this thing....?

Re: "Ol' Blue" '63 GMC

If that is a 305E you can have the 2 barrel intake modified to fit a 4 barrel. If you subscribe at Jolly's GMC sight you can see pictures of manifolds that have been modified. As far as what I did.....my 305E has a fairly large mouth 2 barrel intake, so I bought a 4 down to 2 barrel adapter and bolted it right on. Works wonderfully! I have a 600 edelbrock that I bolted right onto it and Man! Let me say...she pulls quicker than I can shift! I'm still running points to with no issues. Ya gotta remember...even though they're only 305 cubic inches....the bore size was 4.250....that's fairly big. lol I think if yours is stock you'll have a 305A or B which will have the single barrel. A 305E manifold will bolt right in place and you can do the mods I did or have that manifold machined. Also another great upgrade is dual true dual exhaust. Guys commonly run 2.5 inch duals. I'll be doing that with either flowmaster 40's or 50's. :gmc2:

It's a single barrel carb...thanks for the info!.I may have to try that....the exhaust needs to be changed anyway so duals would be a no brainer...
