Np241 transfer case

I plan on doing a 5.3L/4l60e swap in my 70 k5. My current plan is to pick up a passenger drop np241. Has anyone done this in a k5 - I've seen several projects online showing this combo in trucks but haven't located a 1st gen k5 build with the 241.

The reason I'm thinking the 241 is best for me: My k5 came with a Dana 20 tcase and there are no adapters for it. The 241 can be had much cheaper than getting a 205 and an adapter. Lastly the 241 will bolt directly to the 4l60 with factory adapter as long as the input shaft spline count is correct.

I can get you the part # if you want...they come on ebay pretty often..you will need to be sure the spline count is correct.

Your project looks great - mines moving slow too and it doesn't look like it will be picking up steam anytime soon (unless I win the lotto!)

I haven't had a chance to read your entire thread - what crossmember did you use for your trans/transfer case? I found a 241 on Craigslist from a 91 suburban and I'm wondering if I should also get the crossmember while I'm at it - guys parting out the entire truck. I already plan on getting the shifter and everything that goes with it.

The suburban has a 700r4 from what I read it has the same 27 spline output shaft as the 4l60e.

Thanks for your help - I'm sure I'll be bugging you with more questions!

I used a 241 passenger drop mated to a L92/6l80. It bolted right up, I didn't need adapters.

Here's a link to the build, I do not remember how much I covered on the 241 install.

your transmission probably already had the adapter on it....
this is your picture......it looks like there's a short adapter in there...?

Re: Np241 transfer case

Why don't you like the NP205? I think you can get an adaptor plate to mate the figure 8 to the 32 spline trans. You'd need a new 32 spline input to the 205 though... I'd guess the cost difference is not mush but the 205 is a superior TC. The 241 has a 2.6 low (if I recall righ) so that may be the thing.

Edit: on a 70 I guess it may not be a 205...
