Ignition coil Problems

1965 Chev C-10, 283 V-8, was running fine. I noticed the coil was cracked around the neg. ternimal. So I replaced it, but I switch d the + and - wires on top of the coil. It would not start,. I realized my error, and connected them correctly, but the engine would not start. put the old coil back on, engine would not start, put new condenser on, still will not start. It will crank just fine. What did I burn up?

Re: Ignition coil Problems

Use your trusty Ohmmeter to check the coil primary and secondary resistance. They should be low, but not zero, and certainly not infinite.
Check for spark.
Check voltage at the coil + side when the ignition is on and when cranking.
Make sure the points aren't welded closed, and are gapped right.
