Accelerator Cable Replacement
Planning to replace my accelerator cable soon. Wondering if anyone has any special instructions or tricks? My first cable replacement, and appears to be fairly simple.
TIA |
Re: Accelerator Cable Replacement
I did this a few months ago, I had the Mr Gasket universal one. It lasted about 6 months before the plastic bushing on the pedal end broke.
If possible, find one with a steel or aluminum bushing. Or take the plastic one to a machine shop and have one made to match. I replaced it with a stock style cable that was too long and I had to cut it to the right length. I cut it on the carb end and used the end from the Mr Gasket cable in its place. Works great now. |

I'm not familiar with the bushing you refer to. Can you describe more? |
Re: Accelerator Cable Replacement
its the round black part that clips into the pedal linkage, most of them are plastic and can get brittle over time.
Its on the left side of the picture. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...ckup-rwd?pos=0 |
Re: Accelerator Cable Replacement
Then again, yours might be totally different than mine. If so disregard everything I said, lol.

Re: Accelerator Cable Replacement
The issue I had was the parts store one was way too long. It would bind up. Luckily I was able to find a decent one at the junkyard.

Not sure what that is for. I dont recall mine having that. Probably passes through some support bracket that was removed in the past. Looks like you got what you need though.
