Turbo 350 Question
A question for you transmission experts. We bought our '71 with the engine and transmission out of the truck. It's all back in now and we just hooked up the drive shaft this past weekend and when the truck is in park, it will not "hold". It just rolls. Is the parking pawl accessible/fixable without disassembling the transmission or am I looking at a rebuild?

Re: Turbo 350 Question
Can you adjust shift rod ? Maybe un hook at trans. and manually position shift on trans. I think the pawl and pin can be changed in truck (key word, think)

Re: Turbo 350 Question
We tried that also. I unhooked the linkage and moved the lever on the transmission by hand to be sure it was all the way in park. Same deal.

Re: Turbo 350 Question
Nova- Good news. But I need more info as to what I'm looking at. I assume in the upper left corner of your pic is the linkage assembly. Can you explain how it locks when you put it in park? Also, are the parts I'll need readily available?

Re: Turbo 350 Question
Anyone? I have seen a few posts on other sites about this repair being done without pulling the trany and disassembling the tranny. Anybody do this?
My @%#&$^# HOA sent me a letter about my truck being stored "up on blocks" in my driveway. Aparently they don't know the difference between "up on blocks" and "blocks behind the wheels to prevent the truck from rolling across the street into my neighbors house". |
