Headers recommendation
 

My blazer has a 350 with headers that do not have room for the drive shaft for the front differential. I have considered removing headers and placing the ram manifolds with flowmaster exhaust. The truck will be going 40 miles an hour at most when I drive it at the beach, and I wonder about the best exhaust manifold setup to use. I'd like to reinstall the drive shaft so it does have 4-wheel drive and will consider putting in headers meant for that if there are advantages to them over stock exhaust manifolds. with a stock motor...headers are more trouble than they're worth...good rams horn manifolds will be much less hassle.... just my 2¢.....

A guy near me has a set on Craigslist for $30. Are they prone to cracking or warping, I wonder if new remanufactured ones will be less trouble.

A good factory set would be best...they aren't prone to warping and cracking but it can happen....usually a visual check will reveal a crack....and a straight edge will verify flatness....a good set of metallic gaskets will seal them very well.....torque them down and after a few hours of running...torque them again and forget them...

Stock manifolds, or the 2.5" corvette manifold are a common upgrade.

And if you REALLY want headers (which I can't blame anyone and I run them as well) I think Sanderson makes really nice quality headers that wont leak if installed correctly.

X2 on the Sanderson's. Run them on my Jeepster and they have been on two different engines; never had a leak.

I would use EARLS HEADERS GASKETS have them on my 69 camaro and not one issue

Driveshaft interference suggests someone put a set of two wheel drive headers on the truck.

IF I was going to run headers again, they would be Heddmans again. Back in the late 80's they were the only ones that would clear the clutch linkage I could find. Got tired of returning crappy ones to Super Shops.

But I went to the 'vette 2 1/2" outlet manifolds on my Jimmy and we are doing the same on my kids Jimmy project. They work great, look great, are low to no maintenance and are cost effective at $120 from Speedway motors. Available other places as well.

So their Hedmans that are made for a Corvette, do I understand you correctly? Do you have a part number? Thanks

If you are asking me, the part # I used for headers was for a 67-72 4x4 with manual trans. You can get that by calling Summit or Jegs to order.

But on my truck I used the reproduction cast iron Corvette Rams Horns with the larger 2 1/2" diamter outlet. Mine came from Speedway Motors.

Unless you're making north of 350hp, gains with headers wouldn't be realized. And the extra effort just for the sound of headers isn't worth it, IMO. The headaches of leaking gaskets and fasteners coming loose constantly are another negative.

I'll reiterate the corvette ram horns will flow plenty for a stock-ish Chevy small block, as there are a few flow comparisons over the years by different magazine writers. PLUS, they're relatively cheap, and can be installed in under a six-pack worth of time. :D
