Thanks, actually using firewall and floor pan worked out good for lining everything up. I did have to remove about 11/2 “ off each end of dash though. Added a few more pics. Moved bumper back about 2” , didn’t like how it stuckout. Console went in good, used back part for interior fuse box.

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

what size of tires did you end up with?
looks good.

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

I went with 245/45/17s, was going to go with 18” but it would have been really close on front wheelwell.

You certainly made that look easy. More pictures please!

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

just curious what ratio you have out back, what your highway cruising speed is with the 25" tall tires. I am thinking of going with a 28" tall tire, like a 235/60r17. not sure how that will fit into the wheel opening as far as turning and rubbing on bumps but also, with the 3.73 ratio I have, the cruising rpm will be lower so less drone and still should have pretty good pick up and mileage. how do you find yours? do you have a pic from the side showing the tires in the openings?

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

Weather starting to get nicer here so been working in the back clearing the woods, got a nice fire going n later it’ll be roasted hot dogs n smores lol. It was pretty easy using 5he front firewall n front of the floorpan off of the SS. In keeping the floor pan I used the existing SS body mount location that way everything lined up in the cab.

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

Ratio out back is factory which I believe is a 4.10. Haven’t driven it yet so don’t know about what effect changing tire size will have. I need to finish bed n interior but it will slow down now that weather is getting nicer. I can take a better photo of front n give u some measurements if u like, rear won’t matter cause bed not set where I’m going to leave it.

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

are you using the original bed with the wood floor or changing it up to something else, composite, steel floor? have you got the bed mounted yet? gonna use the trailblazer spare tire under the bed or run without a spare maybe?

Fast Chevy 03-27-2019 05:36 PM

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

Probably going with an oak bed since I have the oak( make furniture too). Don’t have bed in final location yet but close, probably put spare tire back on but it depends what I come up for the rear end, thinking about bending some metal in a quarter circle underneath tailgate n then mounting my taillights in it. Still up in the air on it.

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

I found on mine that the 235/60r17's wouldn't quite fit under the box with the original spare tire carrier because the truck sits pretty low. I pinned the suspension at ride height with the original envoy body on top then stripped it off and put the old truck cab on top of the frame with the rockers about even with the bottom of the frame. that way there is prolly no surprises if it were to bottom out on speed bumps etc. the floor in the truck is about 2-2.5" lower than it used to be. is that roughly what yours works out to? I have the spare tire style rear fenders so will likely just use that method. it would be interesting to see the tail light system you have planned. I see you recessed your firewall a bit. does that affect the steering wheel depth noticeably?
some pics of your dash would be nice. you made that look awesome. mine is shortened and mocked up but not finished yet. looks about the same a yours for fitment. I will likely get another whole dash because this one is from a chain smoker's vehicle and the smell just doesn't go away. being a non smoker I really notice it. mock up is good anyway. get this one right and then copy the new smoke free one.
are the ss heels 20"? I like the 17's you have picked out.

Man, that turned out great!!! I'm impressed with the number of things you fit under the hood!! I was running out of room quick. Well done. If you have them, post detailed pictures so we can all study.

Fast Chevy 06-30-2019 05:56 PM

Re: 1955 Chevy SS

Didn’t take alot of detailed photos, but if there is something u really want to see let me know n I’ll see if I can take a photo of. I removed alot of the 55 metal wheel well to give me more room under the hood n replaced them with the plastic wheel wells from the trailblazer.
It worked out pretty good, had some cutting n fitting to do. I have tried to use as much as I could from the trailblazer, even utilizing the SS n Chevy emblems instead of buying the expensive 55 emblems.
