fuel pump/ vac wipers

What is up with a 6 cyl fuel pump for a 1959 chevy truck with vacuum wipers? What is the difference and where do the vacuum lines go?

My '59 has this sort of pump. Vacuum used to power the wiper motor is provided from two sources. One is intake manifold vacuum, the other is the fuel pump. The wiper motor has two nipples for hose from these two sources.
The fuel pump has hard lines that run from the pump, along the block toward the firewall, then when it ends, rubber hose goes thru the firewall and connects to the vacuum wiper motor.

Thanks for the info on that, do you have any pictures you could share? I just got this 59 and I am not up to date on these trucks, I am a 67-72 Chevy truck guy. Although I did have a 56 GMC carry all when I was just out of high school a very very long time ago

Your truck could have came with either vacuum or electric. Before you put too much money into the vacuum you may want to source either an original electric or aftermarket. The vacuum systems (in my opinion) left a little to be desired. The ones that pulled vacuum off the intake really had two speeds. Uphill = very slow. Downhill = very fast.

There have been a couple of different threads on here of the different electrics used from 55-59 . Its pretty informative and may give you some ideas and information. Good luck with your new truck.

Re: fuel pump/ vac wipers

I took a look at the wiper motor last night and it is a vacuum operated. I will check into an electric motor.
The reason I asked in the 1st place is because the fuel pump looks pretty new, but I'm not getting any fuel to the carb and I thought it was the wrong fuel pump. I put an electric fuel pump on and got the engine running. I checked the lobe with the fuel pump out and it seems to have enough lobe to operate the fuel pump.

Re: fuel pump/ vac wipers

if you have any trash or rust in the tank the pump will suck trash/rust into the reed valves
changing the pump will usually solve this for only a short time until you suck trash/rust into the reed valves again
easily solved by installing a filter before the pump

Also, there are still some pumps out there that do not have ethanol resistant rubber parts. These pumps will not last so long when exposed to E10 fuel.

Here's the pics if you were wondering 70SF. I traced in the picture the vacuum line. I had my vacuum motor rebuilt, it's flat where I live/drive and the OE setup works well enough for me.
