Manual to Auotmatic

Just curious if anyone has attempted to swap out stock 4 speed for an automatic in a stock 64 - 66 K10.

I would like to keep the truck as original as possible and still utilize the rest of the stock drive train including the T-221. My plan was to include a stock automatic column and try to make it look like it came from the factory with the auto.

The truck will be mostly used on road with little or no off roading. The engine is a 292 six.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Doubt very much you will find a 221 ever bolted to an auto. You could set it all aside and go with a turbo 350 and a 205. This will be the easiest and least expensive way.

The 221 doesn't bolt directly to the transmission on these, it is connected by a short drive shaft. I was just curious if anyone had swapped in any type of automatic. Didn't want to swap out more than necessary. Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

You can run just about any trans / tcase combo that you want with the divorced rcase. I had a T400 2wd and 221 in my 63. An automatic column might be a pretty tall order though.

Ebay or could get a tilt aftermarket one and paint it to hide it.

Didn't even think of that.

Couldn't he use a 68 -72 collapsable auto column? Tilt would be real nice though.

Thinking about that are all the mounting points the same for that year column? If so id say use it since most wouldn't know it didn't come with it but will look factory.

Pretty sure that mine is out of a '67 - '72 4 speed truck. Looks like it's always been there... well as long as Ive had it anyway.
