Block I.D. ?
 

Just picked up a used 350 . Casting # on the rear of the block is 3970010 . The casting # on the pad on the passenger side front block is V0302TJA . Do I have anything special here ?

All depends on the nickel content of the block, anyone can stamp letters on the deck of the block to make it what they want. Thousands of 010 blocks were made, so when you ask if its special, it only can be special because its yours.

No nothing special. It's either a '73 or a '79 350 from a truck. It could be a 4 bolt.

3970010 was the most common 4" bore block GM ever made. All this "high Nickle" stuff isn't gonna make anything more valuable with these blocks. They are good sturdy blocks and will be 2 or 4 bolt main.

Yea, the nickel content is most likely a myth but I was hoping someone would jump in and add valuable information on how someone would know the tin/nickel content of a GM 010 casting. What does the 010 020 on the front of the block represent, that maybe a myth as well.

Actually it's an extra 1% tin and 2% nickel.

What I have seen on the 10/20 blocks, is less wear on the ridge....they tend to clean up, on a .030 bore after 100 to 125 tho? Longhorn
