Installing an MII...
 

Hey guys I was just wondering if I need to wait until I have my control arms, spindles, and hubs in order to insure placement of my M II crossmember? Or can I just install it based of my axle center measurements and go from there?

You should be able to do it based on the manufacture's measurements on the instruction sheet. Some guys do tweak the location a bit because they feel it might center the tire in the wheel well better but most of the manufactures have it pretty close to right to begin with.

Ok dudes who all has flattened the top of their frame for the spring hats ? the pdfs That whitedog sent both said to flatten the top of the frame.

You didn't mention what year truck you're working on. The instruction sheet links are for 47-54.

Main52, hope I don't come across as a "smart a$$", but I can't find anywhere in the PDF, where it says "flatten top of frame", for spring towers. I could be wrong if I am, I'm sorry.
I just want to help if I can.

Item #3 on both pdf's, do refer to boxing plates to frame, "grind frame rails edge flat so plates lay flat"

Item #6 on speedway pdf, refers to grinding the spring towers to fit the frame.

Both drawings show where the frame curves down in the front, the spring towers sides are straight and would need to match the frame.

I have a couple pics to show what they are talking about. First pic show boxing plate in place with the part of frame that needs to be removed. The second pic shows boxing plate in place with part cut out and top and both edges of frame ground flat to plate.

Main52, here's a couple more pics showing the area on frame where spring towers would need to be trimed.

Pic 1 shows the curve in a stock frame

Pic 2 shows the same area with a straight edge (like the spring tower). You would have to put it in place and scribe the tower and trim to fit frame.

Pic 3 spring tower in place on frame.

I see in your build thread that you already have your boxing plates tacked in place, and received your crossmember. If I'm jumping to far ahead, you will need to remove the piece of old frame that goes up to the radiator crossmember, because that is where the rack and pinon opening in frame will go...Jim

Thanks for the pics. I try to never take anything as a smart a$$ remark on here so no worries. Maybe I was reading it as the top of the frame but it was meaning the curve for the RAD crossmember the whole time. That makes sense. Had a pretty obnoxious head cold this weekend and was able to work out there so hopefully this week I can get out there. Thanks again OLDMAN3

if you have the top brackets that use the T bolts to attach the upper control arm shafts then you will need to include some antidive angle to the top bracket. I think my TCI kit said 4 deg of slope on the top shaft, front to rear.
