Gas tank mounting plates

Can anyone tell me how the black plate in the picture is installed? I know two of these came off when I dropped my old gas tank, but I can't find a picture on my phone or this website that shows where they go. Between the frame and gas tank flange? Where does the rubber anti-squeek strip go?

So after opening up roughly 50 different gas tank threads, I finally found a picture of these on someone elses build. It appears they are spacers that go between the frame and the tank to keep it from hitting the underside of the body. Does anyone know if they are supposed to be bolted on or just clamped in place by the straps? Seems odd to have the holes in the bracket and gas tank flange without bolts! Picture from another thread shows some that appear to be bolted in.

Re: Gas tank mounting plates

On the fill side (driver's side), there are two bolts that are a loop that go down through the frame. On the passenger side, the original straps have j bolts on the ends the go up in the frame holes. The bolts and J bolts go through the spacers between the tank and the frame as you picture. Mine had some insulation/isolator, almost like a fire hose material between the frame and the spacer if I remember correctly. I took a photo of the set up when I pulled the old tank but I can not find it on my phone or computer.

Here is the only picture I have of the passenger side on a '71 K/5
You can see one of the straps where it hooks into the frame...
The spacer can be seen...up against the frame....with some kind of insulator between the spacer and the tank flange

Thanks for the picture. It doesn't look like there are any bolts fastening the spacer to the tank. I don't believe the u bolt or tank straps interface these plates or the tank flange at all.

Re: Gas tank mounting plates

I have both the strap j bolts and the driver's side loop bolts threaded through the tank holes and the spacers. I'll take a picture tomorrow. The replacement tanks do not have the tangs that would hold the passenger side plate in place. The j bolts do hold them in place on the tank flange and against the frame on my replacement tank. Per the assembly manual illustration provided further down by 69-72, the original set up didn't have the j bolts through the spacers or tank flange on that side.

Thanks rsavage. The holes on my new tank flange are 7" on center but my u-bolt and tank strap indentations are 7.5" on center. Hopefully this weekend I'll have time go mock everything up. The j-bolt side of my straps were definitely not through the tank flange, but that doesn't make it correct! Can't remember the u-bolt side.

Would you happen to have any spares of those plates? I have two driver sides but need a passenger side one.

69-72,
No I do not have any extra plates. It seems to me that they were identical pieces.

Ok thanks. They are side specific at least mine are. Something to watch for when you install
