My first 67-72! (68 Burb)

1 Attachment(s)
I just rescued this from two of my buddies who were using it for parts! Got it for $700. Condition of the sale was that the front clip and rear hatch are being swapped out for slightly more "used" parts. I already have a spare 67 rad support and grill that I've been hoarding for a rainy day and my buddy's giving me two of his spare 67 hoods, so I'll only be short a couple fenders and a front bumper. They stole the 327 out of it for a resto'd C10, but it'll come with a targetmaster 305 and a rebuilt turbo 350. My buddy had it registered and was driving it in 2008, so I might just get the swapped engine/tranny all hooked up and drive it before deciding how nuts I want to go on any restoration.
This is the best picture I could take in the dark with my phone, I'll post a bunch more once I get it home tomorrow..

Cool deal!

Too bad the original front clip is going onto a non 67/68 PU.

Looking forward to seeing more photo's!

That's ok, I'm pretty sure I would be on the road to a divorce if I brought another one home. I just bought a '99 crewcab shortie:)

I'll pm you my number, Call me if you need some parts.

I saw a pic of that crewcab, those are pretty sweet. And I saved the number thx. First priority is to reassemble a front clip. All I'm short right now is the fenders and a front bumper. I wouldn't mind gettin a chrome bumper for the back too.. I have a pair of 69-72 fenders I might barter with. Still have to figure out what all the parts are in the back, I think I saw a chrome GMC bumper in there too..

Your 68 is one of my favorite Suburbans I've ever seen. Love the color, perfect amount of lift and tire size and love the wheels. My 68 has been repainted and the paint underneath looks quite similar to yours. What's the color called? looks like a seafoam green maybe? If I ever get to the point where mine is getting a paint job, this would be one of my first color choices!

Hey thanks, the color is the original and is "light green" code 503.
I get tons of compliments on the color combo when I am out on the street.

Well it was minus 25 degrees Celsius today, but I layered up and cleaned out all the leaves and removed the shag rug and scraped out the underlay that was glued down and took out the pile of parts that came with it.. I'm pretty impressed with the overall condition of the floor.

So the drivers side has a hole by the gas pedal, the passenger side looks a little thin, but no holes. I'll have to see whats left after sand blasting it.

Drivers seat isn't that great, but should do temporarily if I get it on the road this summer.

I test fit the bench out of my 66 GMC behind the front seat. It might be ok if I didn't want three rows of seats, but it would make it a little hard to get in the back row. I might use it for the front seat, we'll see.

I really like how nicely this folding bench fits between the fenders. I took it out of my old 79 Jimmy before scrapping it.

So I'm not having any luck using the FAQ search, or the main search engine. As a newbie to the 67-72's, I feel like this may be a dumb question, are 67-68 front fenders the same as 69-72 fenders? One of my friends says yes, and one says no.. Since I don't have the orig front clip, I have nothing to compare to, but I did get two 71 fenders with the Burb. They're not very nice, but better than nothing for now, but I don't want to count on them if they wont work with my 68 rad support and hood. I don't have the hood yet and my rad support and grill need some finishing before I bolt everything together, otherwise I'd just try to see what fits..

Re: My first 67-72! (68 Burb)

That has less rust than what my burb had when I first started to restore!
Your rockers look pretty solid from what I can see, but is that an illusion on the drivers side front rocker? Looks like a chunk is rotted away?

I like the idea of a folding rear seat.
My 3rd seat has spent most of it's life in the garage, rather than mounted in the truck. Since you lose a lot of space for stuff to put back there.

I think I might get away with repairing and not replacing it..? Like the floor, I'll see whats left after some blasting.

Great find on your burb! That's pretty good for an up north old truck I'm guessing! Rust wise I mean.
