Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

My daughter is headed into her 2nd semester of college... I have to find her a car before she goes back to school in Jaunuary. To try and help with insurance.. I'm turning the plate in on my 81" and getting another "work car" thats what i'm telling the Insurance company:mm:

But my wife thinks I'm doing her a favor and taking the pickup off the road:haha::haha: little does she know.... :lol:I taking the front cap, bed, motor/transmission/rear end, and front suspension off, more HP etc...

I told her I have an oil leak I have to fix so I have to pull the motor and clean the frame:lol::lol:

I will be posting pics before I turn a wrench:metal:

let the fun begin

Re: Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

1ST DESCISION

Decide if I want to keep the 1996 Suburban block or send the 2000 GMC Yukon block out to get machined.. or find a 6.0 block.

383 or 355??? keep it mild or do the dam thing:banghead:

I know the LT4 hotcam is out... to mild for me.. I want to stay streetable but rolling burnouts at 30mph is nice:lol:

ENGINE is COMING OUT!!!

Re: Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

i KNOW THE HEATER CORE WAS BYPASSED AND THE VACUUM LINES WERE WRONG... IT WAS JUST TEMPORARY TO GET THE TRUCK MOVED OUT THE WAY FOR A GRADUATION LU'ISLE PARTY THIS SUMMER

81ShrtBox 01-14-2011 08:40 AM

Re: Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

Current engine was assembled this summer think i took it out of the yard about 3 or times. LT4 HotCam, Z06 Beehives, new valve seals, oil pump, fuel pump, true roller timing chain, HEI Distributer with 65,000v coil, Edelbrock 750, and Intake in a 5.7 Vortec. Engine just wasnt what I expected. I read all the 350-400hp stories and got sucked in. I'm going back with what always worked for me... .030 over, deck block, flat tops, shave heads, either a Competition or Engle camshaft and getting rid of this vacuum secondary for a double pumper, 2200stall and 373 gears or bigger depending on wheel size.

I have 3 engine blocks now to choose from:
1. old model 1970 Nova 350 block(complete engine in my shed)
2. 1996 suburban 5.7 roller block(already in my possession)
3. 2000 GMC 5.7 vortec(already in my possession)

would love to get my hands on a 6.0:uhmk:

I have an option of transmission:
1. 350(in the truck)
2. 375(in my shed)
3. 700R4-my neighbor runs a transmission shop
also... while the engine is out Stitch will be hooking me up with new seat covers, getting new carpet, dash pad etc... I'm messaging the body and doing a 4/6 drop. Still hadnt decided on wheel size yet(or if I'm doing a mini tub job).. Not sure if I want 20x8 vs 22x8 up front, or 22x10 vs 24x10 rears, and a new audio system is waiting to go in.

turning the liscense plate in today... I'm a little behind schedule from the cruise we just came back on

Looks like you are going to have some fun and power with this thing. Where you getting the LED's from? I have been wanting some for my gauges but have not been able to locate any.

Thanks

Re: Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

Decided on going with a LS2, fuel injected, cammed-up and programmed... its showtime with the bike, and after getting that car I had to put the truck to the side for now. I'll post pics of my new set up on the bike when its done.

Re: Decided to take my 81" GMC off the road

Guy faked me out on the LS2, when you cant get a name of the place your dealing with something sounds fishy. Everything was fine until I asked for the address and name of the business so that everything can be picked up via frieghtquote.com. I heard every excuse known to man not to give me that info... must have been one of those "COVERT" operations:lol:

Guy that works with me offered a 468cubic inch Bigblock, 12.5comp, steel heads,2.25/1.88 valves,T&G Intake, Comp cams Hyd roller,1050 Dominator, Distributer(electric water pump for a bit extra) $3500

The new truck really put a damper on my play fund... I'm trying to sell some of the sbc stuff before going big block

UPDATE!!!!!!!

Truck is still in the same spot from the pics posted... but, I did find a LS1 6.0 race engine.. 500+hp. MSD box, headwork, intake 598/595 cam, with all the good stuff inside.. buddy of mine sold his 88 Monte SS without the race engine and really hooked me up. Hes giving me everything except the carberator. the pic is with the engine still in his car.

So far I have single chamber race mufflers, new gauge cluster with white gauges and fresh orange needles, 4"x6" drop with spindles and springs and flip kit..

I orderded all new front end parts.. when I take the vortec out the new suspension is going in.

I had to put the C10 on standby for a while... We built a new house last year. Part of the deal was I wouldn't take the C10 to the new house as an eye sore. So... Off to the shop it went. Found a 1986 longwheel base C10 that I had to use for a parts truck.
Pics of both trucks in the way to the shop

I have the LS motor on the engine stand waiting. Picked up a Fbody oilpan, stainless headers, 700R4 is being built and the convertor is on the way. I have a few things left to get.. Wheeltubs, shocks, bushing kit and 4link.
