NEW Porterbuilt Bolt-in C-notch for mild drop

I thought I would post up some pics of our new two piece bolt-in c-notch. I have been trying to find the time to finalize this thing for quite a while now… finally buttoned it up a couple weeks ago! This notch will be part of a complete mild drop system we will be releasing shortly, or we will be selling it separately for $249. This isn’t just an ordinary bolt-in c-notch… I put lots of thought into its design to ensure strength, and ease of installation. The fit on these notches is the best you can find in a production notch. We use factory frame-rail sections as a fixture to build them. Its two-piece design make installation a breeze. It locates using the two factory shock cross-member rivet holes on the top of the frame-rails, and then several holes are drilled. The first notch section can be used as a template and a support to cut the notch out of the frame-rails…. no more cutting, test fitting, cutting, test fitting, cutting… you get the picture! Once the frame section is removed, the lower notch will bolt in to the side and bottom of the rails. The lower section uses factory rivet locations on the bottom side of the frame, and also incorporates an air bag/spring plate (making it easier to drill the frame for mounting the air spring). The factory spring stiffeners remain in the chassis, keeping this baby as strong as possible. I will post more pics of the notch once I complete the mild drop kit I was referring to. There’s also more pics on my site for those who want to see more.

Any word on how this notch affects towing/hauling capacities? I want to still be able to use my truck after this kit is installed. Just trying to do my homework. Thanks!

James

James-

This notch necessitates the removal of right at 1/2 the original frame width. This significantly decreases the strength of the chassis. Our bolt-in notch is a two-piece design that is stronger than the standard c-notches on the market... but not something I would recommend towing with. It is perfectly suitable for every day driving and light use as a truck is intended to see, but if you are planning to do any towing I would recommend NOT notching the frame.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Nate

Thanks for the quick answer. I was reading some stuff on here, but the thread was started by a guy whose account was suspended, so I didn't know how much truth was behind the theory. I appreciate the honesty and may do business with you on other pieces later.

Re: NEW Porterbuilt Bolt-in C-notch for mild drop

Does this notch allow you to keep the factory shock crossmember in place, or do you have to run the one you provide? I have recently dropped my Blazer and I don't want to have to change shock setups already, but I really like the 2-piece design of this notch over the others available. If (when?) I decide to go lower, I am thinking that I would want to use your mild step notch, would there be any problems changing to that later on down the road?

Is this the same notch that POL sells? If so they're giving you no credit...

No not at all. The Porterbuilt notch is by far better built and thicker steel. Side by side there is no comparison.
