1967 front clip on 1972 K5 Blazer

This seems like a pretty common swap so is there a good detailed thread or tutorial? I'm trying to avoid bolting everything together only to dismantle it again (or damage parts) because I left something out. The search function helped me figure out that I needed to replace the front clip to get the sloped hood, but it's not proving helpful at providing small details (i.e. inner fender reinforcement/brace). I've gathered a 67/68 hood, grill, core support, and inner fenders as well as 1967 outer fenders. I know I also need a hood latch.

Thanks,

Rob

The only problem I ran into is that the 67-68 core support was set up for two radiator, had to change lower mounts and cut a relief for my four core alum.

Jim,

Thanks for the heads up. I checked out your build (~page 14?) but got the photobucket error instead of seeing images. Seems like your pieced together 67-68 front clip more or less bolted right on, so that's a good sign. Your build thread is HUGE! Do you know which pages deal with the front clip replacement?

Thanks,
Rob

sorry for the photobucket SNAFU, but I can take new pics of any area you have in question. good luck with your build.

I used a repro grille, and you will want to take out the rivets for the grille surrounds as the are not painted behind them, just a heads up if you go this route
sorry my build is soooo big
Also, the core support bushings will give you fits, since your frame bracket is set up for 72, but your core support is 67-68, buy both bushing and fit as needed, or change the bracket on the frame. Holes are a different size. You'll see the effect of this when you mount the fenders and the gap between the fender and door is off

Thanks, Jim.

I was interested in your thread because you've already done what I want to do. If memory serves me correctly your build thread is 100+ pages. I found some front clip discussion on page 14 or so, but I don't know if there's more or what the sequence of the build was.

Do you have pictures of the rivets and grill surrounds? I think I've read that the 67-68 core bushing is shorter than the 69-72 - is this what you're referring to? I was thinking of using a temporary spacer or even washers. What did you do?

Your advice is greatly appreciated, as would be any related images you can provide.

Rob

this the core support mount, I used the 72, I would modify the mount by welding in a large washer to reduce the hole size

Jim,

Great, looks like I got the right core support after all. In the picture your core support looks like its hanging off one side of the bushing - am I seeing that right?

By the way, did you POR your core support? That thing looks smooth as glass!

Rob

No, it is more front to back angle you're looking at
