Ha! 6 month old thread and I just got to page 2 today. :waah:

But, it's been a good weekend for the Blazer, locked up a handful of parts:
Front Drop Coils
DJM 3" Drop Spindles
Calipers
Rotors
Bearings
Pads
Tie-rod ends

AND... I haven't got them yet, but I think I just locked up a new set of door panels (unopened) and a single wall top.

Good looking Blazer Build you've got here. I have always loved them, and need to find a 2wd for my fleet.

Jeff,

I am subscribed and I hope the parts work out for you. I wish I hadn't been so lazy and checked this out earlier. I love the build and I think you and SuperSam are going to love this truck.

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled

Picked up the single wall top from Andy4639's house. It was very cool of him to find and secure that for me. I am pumped about it, it's in great shape. It needs a hatch (like most you see up for sale) but I already have one that is mint.

Of course, on the way home from his house (a 2 1/2 hour drive), I lost a wheel bearing. I had enough fuel to make it home, but I decided to stop before I got into NC to top off with fuel (it's $0.30 cheaper in SC). As I was fueling I noticed grease on the rim, and upon further inspection, i was a couple bearings short  But , the good Lord was looking out and there was an Advance Auto 1/2 mile away. I already had tools, so after a lengthy battle to get out the jacked up races, I was back on the road.

Oh and yes... blood was shed. I d*mn near knocked myself out. What was left of the old bearing would not come off. It had worked back and forth and created a small ridge on the spindle. I was banging on it and it broke free sending me head first into the fender. I definitely saw stars! and I got a souvenir forehead wound. Looks like it'll be a hat weekend.

I just read the whole thread. If I'm not mistaken I have a brand new hatch handle you can have. I'll need to find it but I'm pretty sure I have one.
I have no idea where it came from but it's new.

Me and gcburdic (Geoff) went to a car show in June and I scored a '68 steering wheel. I like the look compared to the GT wheel that was on it. So I got it installed. Here it is..

I agree. The 67-8 wheels look super cool compared to the newer steering wheels.

Dang Jeff,

You've been busy. 2 of my projects have been pushed in front of my blazer. The plans are still in place for it just postponed till later. Plans to be joining you in NC are still in the works also. I'll keep in touch and I have subscribed.

When I get there we can help each other out with our blazers. ;)

Very cool, and thanks for the update. Ya gotta get out here before June, because we may be having a get together after the Hot Rod Power Tour.

BUT ANYWAY, I figure now is a good time to give a little update. The Blazer is in hibernation for winter. :waah: Not cool, I know, but I need to get a few things done to the Burb before the Power Tour, so I need to save the cash. Besides, the Blazer doesn't need to be done until 2018 (HA!)

However, I will post a few pics of what has been going on with the other parts of it... like the hardtop and the '68 front clip.

She is still at my dads house. So, his '63 Nova won the one extra garage spot. So, as sad as she looks, here is the way she is taking her long winters nap...
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps0ee855b5.jpg

I have, however been working on the top. I want to have it complete by the end of winter. I took the glass out of the single wall top I scored. I am saving the weatherstripping and since it is in good shape, I may reuse it if it cleans up good. However, I also bought new from LMC truck. We'll see... the new is SOOO flimsy compared to the old stuff.
After a heavy cleaning/degreasing and an hour with a razor blade, the glass is nearly perfect. After I get the other one cleaned and the weatherstripping cleaned, the glass will be ready for re-install. I "may" even go ahead and give the windows a light tint. I am not crazy about having that much visibility to what is inside. My Burb has limo tint blacked out windows in the rear and I like it a lot.

The single wall top that I got last month should be making it's way into the garage after our big New Years Eve "Eve" party. Then I will make an attempt at painting the inside and coating the outside. If all goes well, I will install the new weather stripping and it will be ready to replace the big water puddle double wall that is on it now. It's will be white and I think I will shoot it with a Shutz gun and Al's Liner. I also got a deal on a 1,000 lb electric winch, so I will hopefully be able to build a rig to lift the top to the ceiling of my garage.

The "parts collecting" continues...
New Chevrolet letters for the '68 front clip:

A very good quality shroud from member bhelton

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...2129545B40.jpg

And I know it isn't directly "build related" but I built some "wall art" to resemble the proposed paint scheme for the "Red Sled". Ive got to motivate my little boy because he still thinks it is gonna be blue with orange flames, and a red lightning bolt on the hood.

I love the wall art. You need to put some trim on in though. ;)

jeffg1010 01-18-2013 09:17 PM

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled

Yeah Jim, That's gonna take a little more cash. Ive got a decent set of grille hoops that I will be putting on it, but the brow trim I've gotta locate.

So, I talked to my dad about the Blazer today. I believe we are gonna get it ready to paint and shoot the dash, interior doors and door jams as soon as the weather breaks. And then shoot the body in late Spring. I just wanna drive it and enjoy it a little.

Now.... Plans change a lot around here but that is the current one.

I can't answer that with any certainty but still working on it. Lots of tax and liscensing issues still being worked out.
