71 c10 swap. Picked up a 5.3 200k miles everything except trans???
 

Came across a wrecked 2001 Silverado 5.3 with everything except the transmission. Going to install in my 67 stepside. Is there anything I should look out for on an engine with 200k miles and also any ideas on a rough estimate on cost for a transmission

Depending on what your paying for the motor, I picked up a rusty driveable 99 2 wheel drive truck for $700 and drove it home, I pulled the engine and trans, it had 250,000 miles, I had all of it rebuilt and engine once torn apart was in good shape and would have went another 100,000+ miles
A trans might cost you $200-$500 and if it needs a rebuild then another $1700-$1900 from a qualified trans shop.

Thank you for the response. I got the truck for free so only $ will be to buy a transmission and get the ecm tuned

I would rebuild engine if it has 200k on it...you can actually use your current trans if you wanted to...(not sure what you have)...you can get a remain from oreillys....
.if you want a trans like the 4l60 you'll need the controller for that....but not sure exactly because all mine are manuals...

I'd check car-part.com and keep an eye on craigslist. You could buy any 4L60E in need of a rebuild for $200-$400, then have a transmission shop go through it for $700-$1,200 depending on what you have done, etc. A salvage yard like LKQ also offers reman transmissions for pretty reasonable too.

Thank you all for the info. I currently have a 700r4 installed in the truck. What does it take to run a 700r4 with an LS? Adapter plate, different torque converter or torque converter bolts?

200k is nothing the 5.3 in my tahoe went 370k before it died just reseal it and let it ride my suburban as 220k still running strong
