Shifter linkage bushing
 

Hi guys,
My shifter has a lot of slop when put/putting it in gear. After looking around is there supposed to be a bushing where the rod attaches? The rod is only held on by a cotter pin on the backside. Does anywhere know where to source that piece?

Definitely not correct. That almost looks like a throttle rod.

Here are a couple pictures of the original on my 69. I'm not near the truck to confirm, but I think there's a rubber grommet in the hole in the arm on the shift shaft with a steel bushing in the hole in the grommet.

These grommets and bushings are available from ClassicParts.com as part numbers 91-062 and 91-065 (I think you need 2 of each). I just ordered a few for mine.

The bushings down at the transmission are also available from CarId.com, Chevrolet part number 3975132, which supersedes 3748357. I ordered 12 of them, and I believe you need four. I figured for their cost of shipping, I'd make the extra 2 sets available for about $12 (which would include postage). I'll do that after I know they work :)

What is this "automatic" that you speak of? :)

Well, nonetheless, the rod orientation is the same, so it appears his in upside down.

Looks like i'll need to take a closer look at the whole shifter/rod assembly... this whole thing is frankensteined together so it's not surprising if something didn't get put upside down or messed up over the last 50ish years.

Edit: OOPS, this is for Camaros. I'll look for a truck version.

After taking a look at the provided pics and then looking at my truck it does indeed appear to have been installed upside down sometime in the past. Thanks for all the help guys! Cheers!

Seems all the problems on my truck are "repairs" that had been done in the past. Most of these trucks would be better off if people just left them alone.

I have a manual that is sloppier than . . . well, let's just say it's bad. I tried to use the part numbers you have listed here and wasn't able to find stuff for my 3 on the tree. Any links to the parts by chance?

You also need a backing washer to go behind the clips or cotter pins. Don't know the size off hand, but typical hardware store item.
