Engine Dies when looking for Vacuum Leak

I was trying to adjust the Carter AFB Competition Series Carb and Timing last night and was having a little trouble getting it dialed in so I sprayed some carb cleaner around the carb to look for any vacuum leaks and whenever I sprayed it near the Electric Choke the engine would start to stumble and almost die.

Anyone run into this before?

Yup!
I found the leak too!

Shouldn't the engine rev up when it is sprayed; it bogs and almost dies when I spray it...

The only thing I can think might be happening is the Carb Cleaner is coming out cold and making the Choke think the engine is colder than it is and applying the Choke.

Spray into the Venturi and see what happens.

Electric chokes don't work that way. They don't care what temp the motor is. You have a leak around the choke somewhere.

Re: Engine Dies when looking for Vacuum Leak

Actually, the bi-metal coil inside the choke is expanded by electrical current heating the metal and expanding it. Spraying the choke with carb cleaner probably won't cool it enough to affect engine to die (as mentioned above) so it's more than likely a vacuum leak somewhere else.

You can double check that by removing the breather cover and actually looking at the choke to see if it closes.
