Re: Whats under your hood?
I don't think anybody has said a V12 yet. Or a turbocharged DT478 V6 or a DH637 V8?

Re: Whats under your hood?
I'd drop in a Buick 455 since I also have a spare. My 63 already has a decent 327 with a big Isky stick.

Re: Whats under your hood?
Right now there's a flannel blanket under my hood. Maybe one day I'll get far enough along to get the hood up off the floor and back on the truck...

Re: Whats under your hood?
A co-worker of mine put a Cummins diesel engine in his '65(?, I haven't looked close enough to tell what year, I probably should though..), and only runs bio diesel.

A non Chevy engine choice would be a toss up between the much loved 401 Nailhead or a full tilt 455 olds. Quote:

He said he just cut two valve covers and welded them together.
One of my friends came up talking to me and I didn't get the chance to ask him about the breathers or what ever he has over the carbs if any. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...8_409_VC_1.jpg https://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1p...E/IMAG0099.jpg |

The '66 burb had a TBI 5.7 and 700R4-looking at adding a supercharger later. The '69 C-30 has a real 427 truck motor that's been "warmed up" a bit. The other half's lil '50 F-100 has somewhere around 472 inches of Ford. We kinda like a little bit bigger blocks to play with here! LOL

Salvage yard engine parts. Small block 283 (67 block) with 350 heads (74-80) and serpentine belt setup removed from a 1993 S-10 Blazer equipped with 4.3L CPI engine. Old skool with a modern twist!!

Re: Whats under your hood?
Let's revive this. I'm looking at re-power options. Any new ideas out there?

As mentioned, pontiac is THE way to go (i'm partial, i'm a pontiac guy).
They are cheap, avail, and already built like a truck motor (gobs of torque, even the low-po motors were 400 ft lbs). GMC used pontiac motors vs chevy motors in trucks for a short period. I know chevy guys are like "i got the upgraded 283! Check out my 327! My camaro got the 350!" Listen, that's cute, our value motor was the 389, and it was a hot setup. Our station wagons got 455s. I mean, if you go back to when chevy first did v8s, we did have a little 326, but that was just for a minute. Hell, we had an OHC 6 that outran the 326 v8! You want to be different? Slap one of those in: |

Re: Whats under your hood?
LSx swap....
Engines are cheap and plentiful More HP and EFI than your usual carb counterpart Easy starts.... and that odd look, pause, and stop...when people walk by. https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...29&oe=54FF4E1E Otherwise... oddity... 4-53T detroit diesel 4 cylinder.... how many nailheads have jake brakes? heres one with working jakes in a 50 GMC pickup 1/2 tonner.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2zwd1iazvU |

Working on a 6.0L 500+ hp LS3 / LQ4 hybrid to use in my 66. Nothing wrong with any other mill folks want to use, but I am a powertrain calibrator by profession and like the idea of a modern control system. :) I won't lie though - my last setup (350 / T5) was a hoot until I stripped the teeth from 3rd gear. |

Just another 454 bb. Knotched firewall so the engine sits back.
