Weird Seat Track Bolts
Hello,
The seat track on my '58 bench seat is held to the seat frame with bolts that have a very weirdly shaped indentation. It looks like sort of like a bow tie but has rounded edges. Probably done for easy assembly in the plant? A torx socket will work on some of the bolts, but strips others. My next thought is to tack weld a standard hex bolt to these and try to back them out that way, then replace with standard hex bolts. Someone smarter than me might have thought of a better way to get these weird bolts out without ruining them? Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks |
Those are fine chevy clutch head bolts. You can find the sockets from Snap on or Matco. I have found that they don't fit anyway. There is so much rust and build up in them. Some people weld a nut on top of them. Some use a Dremel and cut a slot in them for a screw driver. And some"like me "grind them off. If you have not noticed your back fenders should be held on with them also. So are the front ones inside where the headlights are. Good luck johnj

slot with a cut off wheel and then use screwdriver. keep the grinder handy so you can finish off the ones the screwdriver won't get

Re: Weird Seat Track Bolts
Hey thanks for the replies. I think they are either 5/16 or 3/8 clutch head. Just not sure which size. If anyone knows which size give me a shout.
Thanks again! |
Re: Weird Seat Track Bolts
Clutch head screwdriver, the very first tool I ever bought off a Snap On truck when I was 18.
I treasure it and will be using those bolts on my truck just to be able to. Brian |
