What is the "AUTO 4WD" Button........
 

On my Wifes 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext Cab?

I know what the 4WD Hi and 4WD Low is for, but shes got the Truck at work and texted me asking about it.

Is it used for "Light Snow" under a Certain amount of inches?
What is the difference between "Auto 4WD" and "4 WD Hi"?

in a very breif description, say you are at a stop light, its icy, you are in auto 4x4, if the truck sences the rear tires start to spin it will automatically kick in the front tires. When the traction increases and you are rolling it will automatically return itself to 2wd. Used when there are icy spots with lower speed stop and go. I have used it up to 12'' of snow and with freezing rain, it is quite handy to have.

ya thats what it does but i keep it in full 4wd or full 2wd because if you back wheels are spinning fast it will wear out that cluthc quick

It allows the computer to control whether you use the front wheels or not. They only pull if needed when the computer senses the rear ones slipping. It really helps with the binding you feel when turning tight while in full 4wd. I live in GA so not much need for it in snow, but it sure works good in RED GA CLAY!

That's the only button my wife is allowed to push. Otherwise she'd drive around in 4hi for weeks after 1" of snow :lol:
