Want to buy a K20

Hi guys,
I've been looking for a truck for a while now and am not having great luck, I've already tried SearchTempest a few times as well as Facebook marketplace. My Dad had a '69 Chevy c10 with I believe a 327 and 3 on the tree, Maroon or dark red with white roof, not sure on interior color. I'd like to build a K20 with similar options except maybe a 4 speed transmission. I'm not sure what all options Dads truck had. Anyway my budget maxes out right around $10k.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi jon.
Is that the creekside near Indiana pa? I'm from near Greensburg. I recently saw a k20 rolling chassis on Craigslist for sale. I'll try and find the add again. You might be able to build a truck cheap that way.

Here you go, this could be a good starting point for you

s10mk,
Yes it is the Creekside just outside of Indiana. Thanks for the craigslist link, not sure I want to start with that much of a blank slate, but if you can get all the sheet metal aftermarket I wouldn't have to worry about rust. Can you get a complete cab aftermarket does anyone know, I'm pretty sure you can get everything else just not sure on price or who offers the best aftermarket body panels.
Thanks,
Jon

Re: Want to buy a K20

If you started with a rolling chassis, your best bet would be too buy a complete 2wd truck with a nice body

Yeah that would probably be the easiest and certainly cheaper than trying to build a truck from "LMC" or some other place. I'll have to look for 67-72 trucks that I could body swap.

How far are you willing to travel. Plenty of K's up here in the northwest.

I through in the one auto as it would be an easy swap with the current condition of the truck

JUST kidding. Good luck in your search. Unfortunately they seem to be getting as popular as swb hot rods. Crap..

Re: Want to buy a K20

52napco doesn’t seem to have any problem finding them... seems like he buys one once a month:lol: They are around. My suggestion would be to search the western states. There’s still decent trucks with good options out here as opposed to the east cost. My dad has a 72 K20 in north west VA. One day it showed up on Craigslist and he happened to be the most persisitant person willing to pay full asking price. It wasn’t on Craigslist but 12 hours. Keep an eye out and be patient and you’ll find one. They don’t seem to last long when they do come up. Mark is right they are getting to be pretty popular it seems.

As a matter of fact, I believe he may have one with slots up for sale on CL at the moment (I think this is one of yours, isn't' it Ken?) It was originally a white over hugger orange truck and, oh, did I mention, it has SLOTS!
https://greenville.craigslist.org/ct...475744850.html It has slots!

Jocko, for some reason when I quote you I get a different message than original, but who exactly are you saying has this truck 57 Napco?
Thanks,
Jon

Also thanks for the western trucks, the only real problem with them is the hauling price and having someone close check them out for me.

Re: Want to buy a K20

They're talking about 52napco

Yeah, all this popularity is changing my world. I have always been a K/20 guy first and foremost. They are in my blood. To me a fully loaded K/20 is top of the 67-72 food chain while the big block loaded SWBs seem to be that for the majority. I like the trucks so much I have had just about one of each. But, Custom Camper C/20 & C/30s were my close second. I have a had a slew of both configurations and a few of each at a time...till my divorce. Hello, my name is Tim and I'm an 8-lugger guy. My very first truck was a '72 SWB C/10 and, like most, I love them too. But for my uses the 8-luggers have to come first and the SWBs are car or toy, so lower on the priority list.

I guess you dn't want to donate your C/10 to put on a K/20 chassis? Is being a factory K/20 important to you? I ask because you can do that 2wd body on 4wd chassis or even go on to 73-87s and used a crapped out PA square body for a donor. I have a '77 K/30 chassis for just that purpose. They even had Spicer hubs back then. I still have one original and with the way things have changed, I intend to retain it's originality and make the other truck to suit me . Probably be a beefy flatbed better outfitted for off road

I don't have a C/10 to donate, my Dad had 1 that he bought new and had until he bought a new K1500 GMC in 1978, he traded that on an 1981 K10, that on a 1986 K10, that on a 1992 K1500, that on a 2004 K1500 and that on a 2014 K1500 that my brother has now, Dad was all GM for a long time until they bought a Plymouth Town & Country in 2003.

Sorry, yes, Ken is 52napco. Was referring to the post directly before mine. He is a great guy to deal with, he helped me nab my current K20.

Yeah, thanks! In my world I guess that has become true. Not that I don't see them as equal*. This truck was my first GMC K2500 from the era. Came across the listing in Hemmings and next thing I knew I was buying a plane ticket! In my life I had seen few of these , at least well optioned, and had to have it! I was never too crazy about a white truck either, but... I love my truck! I never saw any high option K/20s or K2500s back East before the internet. Regions had different truck markets back then. My neighbor buddy's dad was a big masonry contractor, he did most of the public schools. His dads's '67 K/20 (in '67) was my first love... medium green, black wheels, black interior, and base trim. It was lettered "A. Myron Cowell Masonry" with bricks and a trowel on the door and he had the rings of the split rims and lugs painted silver.

* In fact, I ended up with the K2500 out of the rest because every time I listed it for sale, due to hard times, people who came to look would want me to sell them the '72 K/20 Highlander because it was lifted and the blue & white 2-tone. I really wanted to keep that because it was the rarest one I had ever owned...or saw. It's not like I hated the GMC, but I wouldn't sell the Chevy. Then my good friend pulled some cash out and made a very fair offer on the Highlander. He got it. I feel good because he is my friend, he is a wizard mechanic, and avid collector. Before he tore into the restoration he would let me drive off in it for a few days. I can't wait tiill the rstoration is done so I can take it to some shows!

Only difference between a 1/2 and 3/4 4x4 is the springs and axles. Frames and everything else is the same. The above truck looks to be in pretty good shape and a 292 to boot.

Overpriced compared to my area, but the 292 is cool - almost as cool as my soon to be 478M...
