NP205 shift rod questions?

http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/.../Photo0228.jpg

Is this the position for 2wd? I try to find 4 positions for this case but it seems like it only has 3 and going from 4wd to 2wd the closest rod stays put but the farthest one goes in half stroke? Can snyone show me where these rods should be for the 2wd position?

Ok, I found an answer(I think) The closer shift rod controls the rear output and the farthert controls the front, so mine in the picture above should be rear engaged and front neutral right? So my question now is, how can I adjust my linkage where I get a positive shift from 4wd to 2wd? It wants to pull both rods into neutral, and the only way it will slide into 2wd is if I ease from neutral to 2wd?

that appears to be the correct shift pattern diagram, my guess is that your detent rods are just worn out (Shift rods) and need replacing. not sure where to find factory units, but if it is an offroad vehicle you may want to check out JKWoffroad.com's twinstick conversion. thats the product i will be running come tax return time!!

In the picture you posted thats 2 hi. There is no way to adjust the linkage on these cases. I'm not really understanding what your problem is. When You try and pull the lever all the way back into 4 hi it puts the rear output into neutral also?

No, it goes into 4 hi with no problem. It's going from 4 hi to 2 hi that it wants to pull both rods into neutral?

If the rear shift rod has just a little play when going into 2wd I wouldn't worry unless It actually shifts into neutral. Is the transfer case in the truck.

If you think you need new shift rails, just send me a PM with an address and I'll send you my old ones in a flat rate box. I don't need 'em anymore. They worked real well in my case but I went with the ORD shift rails and twin sticks. Don't worry about paying for shipping. Just glad to help out.

Thanks Dan, so are you talking about the rods that go into the case, or the actual rail that the shifter attatches to? I dont see any play or wear in mine is the only deal, it's all real tight and my transfer case came from a low mileage truck?

Yes, but it's not on the road yet, maybe under power the shift will be more precise? I am just shifting the case to get an idea of where the position is for 2wd n and 4wd hi and lo.

Ok can someone post a pic or diagram of a stock 205 shift rod and linkage? Im considering buying a 80 K15 step but the T case shifter is absent i can see the rods coming out of the case but theres no rods or pivots..etc.. and its too showy to climb under my 72 and peek
thanks in advance

I would betcha that once you get her in the truck with some drivelines on(which I think would lessen gear play a little) it will shift just fine. All the ones I've had have had play in them like that but always shift fine. But If it makes you feel better why not replace them for a good set. After all he said hes got a free set. But then I guess you've got to muscle it outta that truck.
