Service stability after Steering shaft replacement HELP
 
Well after replacing the lower steering shaft on our 2005 Tahoe I jumped in excited to have a like new steering feeling only to get a service stability message. Seams like its something directly related to the shaft replacement What did I do wrong ????


Just for reference the lower shaft part number 25958109 dealer price $456.50 CDN got off amazon.ca for $238.80 or its $153 US I cant get over the price difference !!!

It is very likely that you damaged the steering wheel position sensor when doing the steering shaft repair. If the wheel spins freely while you have the shaft disconnected the sensor gets messed up. I haven't had it happen to me personally but read tons of horror stories about it prior to working on my 2006 Silverado steering shaft. I actually put a ratchet strap through my steering wheel to keep it in position while I disconnected the shaft. Do some Google searches about the sensor, if I remember correctly it's beneath the steering wheel which means pulling the air bag and wheel.

I tied the wheel to the shifter but it was not fixed still had some movement. But it was not able to spin in circles just wiggle

Then that may not be your problem, it was a thought.

There are two possible causes for this issue.

•An internal fault within the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer, P/N 15189628, may be the first possible cause.
•The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) electronic brake traction control module (EBCM) calibration may be the second possible cause. There is an updated calibration available for this.

Inspect the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer part number located on the sensor bracket which is located under the pass seat. You need to remove the seat to do this.
◦OLD yaw rate sensors/lateral accelerometers have a part number of P/N 15189628.
◦IMPROVED yaw rate sensors/lateral accelerometers have a part number of P/N 15220053.
