Bolt Restorations
 

Restoration might not be the right word but here is a little info on how to cold black oxide your bolts to add a little detail and help prevent them from rusting.

The first picture is a rusty bolt (what I started with).

Second picture is the sandblasted bolts.

third picture is the bolts submersed in the black oxide solution for 5-10 minutes.

Fourth picture is the bolts submersed in the sealer (I know you can't see them).

Fith picture is what the finished product looks like after air dryin and then wiping them off (next day).

Here are the bolts I have done for my truck and some pictures of the solution and sealer.

First pic is the actual bolts after I sealed them (letting them dry until tommorrow.

Second pic is the bucket of bolts I did this week for my truck.

third pic is the concentrated solution (you mix 9 parts water to one part solution). It lasts a long time and you just add some concentrate every now and then to freshen it up.

Fourth pic is the sealer.

I think they come out pretty nice and its inexpensive to do, what do you think?

I wouldn't buy the kits though, just the sealer and black oxide. Eastwood co also sells a product for this. I don't know their costs or quality, I've just used the caswell stuff.

The guy working on my truck does complete restorations and is now using this on some of the bolts on a 1950 pontiac convertible he is doing. I gave him the stuff since he is giving me a good deal on a lot of work.

Yes you can do this to new bolts and you can buy black oxided bolts. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.
