Pickup forum has a similar thread so why not K5's?

Had 3.73's and a front posi installed in my Blazer today and upgraded to a better shade of blue hub actuator dials.

What did you do today?

Two steps forward: installed an internally regulated alternator and hooked up the auxiliary battery :)

Two steps back: discovered an antifreeze leak that tells me the heater core is bad and my fancy Oldsmobile AC compressor belt shield won't fit because of the CA emissions brackets required for the compressor :( Will post this for sale, it's a cool add

I swapped the old RH rear CST panel for a repro and scrubbed the slider windows I was able to track down. Not sure I'm thrilled about the tint. Only set I've seen that's a factory tint - frames are black.

Hey deadheadnm, where did you get the repro panel in the saddle? Just what I'm looking for.

Those came via Brothers Trucks. I've since learned that forum member Truckseats can get these also. He's provided me with two excellent sets of covers for my pickups. Send him a PM.

Thanks. Looks like I have some covers coming from Truckseats. Might have to increase my order.
This weekend is installing my tach cluster. Pictures to come!

What was the process of making those and what materials did you use. I like them alot, very cool idea and surprisingly innovative that looks stock :metal:

I made patterns out of box board, took em to a shop that water jetted them from 3/16 aluminum, sand sand sand and polish. More work to the lenses to make them fit just right though. Thank you for the compliment; my Blazer is full of little things that took MAJOR time and effort that you have to point out to people if I want them to notice.

Installed a refurbished OEM am/fm truck radio, freshened up the AC ducts, and swapped the repro dash pad for a really nice OEM example. It took most of the weekend and taught me I need bifocals! :(

Did some trouble shooting on the engine and found out the intake was leaking all the way around so I pulled that all apart cleaned it and ready to reinstall. Trouble shot my transfer case leak sure enough I have to drop it out and reseal the adapter. Put some new trim molding on my right rear body panel. Thats enough for me this weekend. Alex

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Pulled my gauge cluster and replaced the light switch, that fixed my dash light dimmer and my courtesy lights. Also fixed my tach, the needle would bind up at 1800 rpm, the needle sits on a spring all I had to do was slighty pull it out which now allows the needle to fully rotate. Also ran the wiring for the door pins that control the courtesy lights, now need to make a jumper to wire them in. Attempted to install my new passenger side inside fender after I had painted it, but decided to wait until I have some help so I don't fubar the paint.

Time for a nap!

Alex how'd you trouble shoot for the leak? Nice new ride btw!! I've got a leaking heater core, my heater blows cool not hot, and my fuel gauge is inaccurate so I've got a lot more trouble shooting to.

Did a light refurbish on a used tach cluster I picked up last year. Finally installed it, but the temp gauge pegged to the top when I got the power on. Any ideas on that one? Off course the battery was too dead to fire it up, so still not sure if the tach even works. Throw the battery on the charger and try again tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Wish I could help - having a real struggle right now with my fuel gauge which is off by 1/4 turn or so clockwise. I need to swap in the original cluster which was working well. Lights look good - I upgraded to brighter ones in my tach cluster, #168 IIRC

timski69gmc 04-28-2014 12:13 AM

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Bummer. Thought I had seen a thread somewhere on the Temp gauge. Will have to see if I can find it. I had a mixture of 168's and 194's in the three clusters I had in pieces. Wasn't sure which were the brighter ones, I mostly just wanted them to work. I think most were the 194's.
Oh, and got my K/5 emblems back one. Only had one when I bought it. Found another on Ebay and touched them up. Much better having matching emblems.

I sprayed brake cleaner around the intake while the engine is running and listen for rpm increase. Heater cores are a PITA I am sure you have study up on that one. I haven't had to trouble shoot a fuel guage yet.

Repairs/Upgrades on the Dana44. New Yukon 4340 axles and ujoints, ball joints, hub bearings, seals, new Warn locking hubs, rotors, brake calipers. Degreasing 42 years of caked-on grease sludge, and bead-blasting everything took me more time than anything else...

Put my intake back with some new gaskets and it is running pretty good now, just got to dial it in a little. Set everything up to specification 8 degrees BTDC and 30 degrees dwell 650 rpm at idle.
