No real big progress on this lately. Been spending time with the family, and trying to tie up other loose ends. I did finally get the injection lines de rustized, primed and painted. You wouldn't think a set of $600 lines would freakin rust! Oh yeah, the builder cheaped out and used non coated lines to start with!

Hey ryan . A little off topic here buy you always have good insite , you know how the 2wd guys Z the front frame section to get lower . Could a guy Z the frame a few inches to acheive a cheap lift ? Just go the other way ? Im looking to start building a s 10 with my boy and i thought a bit of lift would be cool , A body lift will just fall apart with the way kids drive and this would be free , minus labour . fe stuff would be all stock to so it would still drive the way it was meant to . Just a thought . Sorry to hyjack but you seem like the man to bounce things like this off of . (Thats a complement ) Lol.

Re: Ultra Family and Hauler Mobile

I don't see why it wouldn't work. A friend of mine built a truck when I was in college and he stacked two K20 frames together. But anyhow, I don't see why a Z'd frame wouldn't work as long as the joints are welded and gusseted right.

6bt 65 get on a s10 forum and see if you can get a used lift cheap. When they do a solid axle swap they end up tossing the whole front suspension.

Re: Ultra Family and Hauler Mobile

I keep getting pulled off this project so it's taking way longer than I'd like. But, what do you do? I've gotten the fuel lines ran and got the injection lines back on. I still have to add protective covering in areas and secure some of the fuel lines. I installed a pro comp black pump on the LH frame rail for the lift pump. I have to wire the pump, put fuel in the tank, and prime the system. I also repainted my turbo compressor cover as the red just didn't do it for me. I'm going to be painting some items under the hood body color. I think it looks much better. I also installed a new belt tensioner and had a fiasco with my new a/c compressor. I finally got a non damaged one and installed it.

I'd like to start the engine this weekend but we'll see how other things go. I've still got a decent amount of work left to do to the truck to finish it, and I'm switching the front over to an 05 style as well. I have to repaint the top part of my new bumper, and I might get a different HID kit as the one I got doesn't have a wire harness.

I didn't have room for the air filter so I moved the vacuum reservoir and added another vacuum reservoir on the LH side behind the battery tray. I'm trying to get the other intercooler pipe painted. I've already painted the RH one, the elbow for the turbo, the intake horn and grid heater too.

Re: Ultra Family and Hauler Mobile

I've been working on it when I can get the spare time. I'm working on eliminating un-needed wiring from the V10, I also need to move the speed control servo from the RH side to the LH side. I got in an F-550 that I have to basically restore, and all the V10 stuff is parts or scrap. So, today I got the missing A/C harness and a plastic wire cover that I broke when I installed my engine for the second time.

I made all the battery cables, positive and negative, and also made a ground cable to go from the engine to the frame.

Air filter pipe and placement.

Here's the second pile of scrap connectors and wire I removed from the stock V10 harness.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...018_191615.jpg

Here's what I'm left with. The oil pressure sender wire, coolant temp sender wires, crankshaft position wires, and the old coil power wire which I plan to use for key on injection pump power. The A/C is all in the truck harness which is kind of odd.

Here's the loom cover/holder I got and cleaned it up and painted it with trim paint.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...018_204637.jpg

I got my fan blade cleaned up and painted as well.

Here's with the 24v Cummins.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...531_180752.jpg

Yesterday I did more searching and found the source of my no power to my starter solenoid. When the tcase exploded and the driveshaft smacked the frame, it cut half the wires to the neutral safety switch. I repaired them to check the starter operation. It works! Sweet! Now to seperate the wiring for the 4x4 ranges, and shorten the wiring to make a clean install. I also started removing the harness that goes across the top of the fire wall so I can move the speed control assy to the LH side. I've got that about half way done.

Thanks, and yes she does. I want it done too so I can work on my ugly duckling, and I have some changes I want to do to the Longhorn and test it before the white stuff flies. I've been wanting an Excursion for a long time. I just really never had a real reason to have one before we had kids. Now the ol crew cab ford is stuffed. :mm:

Re: Ultra Family and Hauler Mobile

I've been working on the wiring on this beast. I got the lift pump wired up, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, fuel shut off solenoid wired, cruise servo moved and wired, and started wiring the ford external voltage regulator. I have the cruise all hooked up and the throttle cable is hooked up as well. I have to hook up the TV pressure cable and add some return springs on the linkage. I'm having some issues getting the lift pump to pull fuel from the tank. I may have to remove the line and help it out. I'm still waiting to hear on my A/C lines, and I'm waiting on some wiring connectors so I can finish up the wiring.

No, no smoke yet. This engine was one I pulled from a truck and had a VP on it. My previous VE 24v had a bad dealing with moisture and the long block is sitting in the corner of the shop. I've got some things I need to finish before I fire it up.

Re: Ultra Family and Hauler Mobile

Thanks. I put it on today. Too bad it wasn't just a unbolt and bolt it on deal. Oh no, these autoworld mounts have the engine pretty far back and pretty high making it real hard, oh wait, impossible to remove the valve cover. You have to remove the trans mount and lower the trans to get enough room to get the valve cover to clear everything to come out.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...030_122103.jpg

Now this thing has a chevy part on it too! I used a 67-72 tail gate hinge/strap to make my air intake support bracket out of. I also decided to body work this pipe as it had lines on it from being bent and I knew it would drive me nuts.

Been getting some stuff done on this thing. Repainted some piping and the front bumper.

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...101_212409.jpg
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...101_233041.jpg

I got the AC lines installed, got the last bolt in the turbo compressor housing, wired the external voltage regulator, wired the lift pump, had my brother prime the lift pump and fix a leak on the return side, and I set the intercooler back in there so I could see if my hot pipe would clear the AC lines. I also got the throttle linkage made. Built a bracket for the throttle pressure valve for the trans as well. Filled with fluids, fought and fought it but finally got it to run! Then I had some tach issues and figured that out. Waiting for a new tone wheel for that. I'm planning on a test drive this weekend................
