Gear pattern gurus…take a look
2 Attachment(s)
Eaton Tru Trac, Motive gears 4.10’s in a 67 C10 housing.
Pinion depth set with T&D Machine pinion gauge. Pinion head called for 2.751, and 3 different areas of the pinion read 2.750. Backlash set at exactly .0085 Motive calls for .007-.009 spec. The yellow compound was maybe a tad thick, so that may be giving me a bit of and issue as far as pattern, but I did hook a drill to the pinion nut and ran it around 1,000 rpms to get the pattern. Any thoughts? |
Re: Gear pattern gurus…take a look
Drive side is a tad too deep, but it's within specs and looks good, so I'd run with it. Preloads all set when running pattern? Running the pattern with an electric drill is ....well... questionable. Repaint the gear and run it by hand with pressure on the ring gear as well as the pinion. I'm suspecting not much will change though

Re: Gear pattern gurus…take a look
i saw this last night and also thought a tad deep on drive...
coast side looks great.. mix a little oil with your compound and itll do alot better im with KW, while not "perfect", itll probably run fine |

I can re-mark and re-run by hand but like you said I don’t see much changing. Yes, preload set at 24 inch pounds rolling torque. So, a tad deep meaning it needs a bit less shim? What are you thinking, .003-.004? This isn’t an everyday driver, so I’m probably only looking at 1200 miles per year on the drive train. It’s very very smooth when spinning with a drill, although that may not mean anything. |
