20" Truck Rally Wheels

I potentially have a mfg. company who is willing to build, for me, a 20 inch truck rally wheel. I am posting this as a feeler to see where the market stands. What would your preferences be? Stock finish steel wheel with trim rings? What material, steel, aluminum, etc... Let me know your thoughts and we'll see where we can go from here. If we can get everything set up then we'll finally have a 20" truck rally wheel.

** I will not be selling these on here without upgrading to vendor status, just checking market interest**

Made out of steel? I might be interested pending pictures and pricing.

Thats why I am asking opinions. Would you prefer a steel, stock finished wheel? I wont be able to have pricing info until we decide on the material to use. Of course, steel would be cheapest. Personally, I would want them in steel instead of billet like the big inch vette rallys.

Lets see 'em. I think they would be cool if you could get the right look with the trim ring area. Maybe gray center and polished lip. The center cap selling point for me. I didn't like the look of the 20" car rally that was produced. The cap didn't look right to me.

Steel would be the way to go to keep the cost down. I think if they were steel versus machined billet you would sell waaay more sets. There's a lot of people that want 20s but cant necessarily afford a custom set of 20s, and if they could I don't think they would buy machined rally wheels. IMHO (Not trying to be an a$$hole im kind of right there with everyone else right now.) So I think as a selling standpoint, steel is what they need to be made out of.

Now the question is, what about beauty rings and center caps ;) That would be the bees knees!

I would buy a set in steel that's for sure.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

Oh and available in 8" and 10" widths so you could run staggered tires, I know alot of people that are looking for cheap wheels in 20s that have staggered sizes and there just isn't a whole lot of options.

If I had $$, I would be way interested!
Edit: 8 lug please :-)

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

They would be in 8's and 10's for sure. Working on deep trim rings too. The center cap is the only issue with keeping the stock look. You can expand the wheel to 20" but cant really expand the cap much and keep lug nuts exposed like the truck rallys. IMO, if you wanted to expand the cap and cover the lug nuts you might as well buy the vette rallys with the derby caps. I will work on finalizing a pic and getting it up in a few days. This is something I'm doing in my spare time so I have to keep my full time employer somewhat happy.;)

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I honestly think the stock center cap size would look fine on a 20" wheel. I think it actually might look better on a 20" then a 15". Ya it may look a little bit smaller but I bet it would work.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I'd be interested in any 20" steel wheel that didn't look like a spare..

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I would definitely be interested in them. even if they had a chrome outer rim and the grey inner, I would be interested in that, but the trim rim in 20" would be nicer IMO.

This would be the only 20" rim I would put on my truck, I am not a fan of the chrome/billet,etc rims.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

i think that would be cool. not to crazy about the vette ralleys, i like the smaller slots IMO. i would imagine with the 5x5 bolt pattern they can use the same original center cap because the outside wheel over all would be bigger. iam likeing the idea though. beauty ring a must also in steel so people can paint them if they choose and staggered for sure..

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

20" steel wheels are HEAVY. I tried a set of the Dodge Ram spares for my truck and decided I didn't wanna haul all that weight around. Braking, handling, and acceleration will be affected.

This, however, would be the cheaper route compared to billet aluminum, which are around $4k, on the low end, for a custom set. This has been attempted by members before and subsequently abandoned due to price. I hope you can make this work. I'll take mine with trim rings and stock center caps :chevy:

All the more reason to upgrade your brakes, motor, and front suspension!!

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

Thanks for that input, on that note, I dont want to make a HUGE monetary investment with this company to build a ton of wheels I cant sell due to price limitations. What would you guys be willing or expect to spend on a set of staggered 20" rallys with trim rings?

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I think $800-$1000 for a set would be a fair price for steel, seeing how they would be 20s. I personally would be willing to pay up to $1500 for a set.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I would also suggest 5 and 6 lugs

I think the price would have to be less than a cheap set of aluminum 20s (i.e. Boss 338s)

If you do go aluminum on them, you could have a polished lip and and grey centers so simulate the trim ring. I think your best be would be to use a stock type of center cap. To me there doesn't seem to be much other good option.

Rochlow 10-19-2011 11:08 AM

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

$800 is reasonable. Above that you start getting into entry level 20s that are already on the market.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

We are definately going to use the stock center caps.
We will definately do 6x5.5 if there is enough of a market for them.

I'd buy a set for sure!

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

Trim rings are way too difficult to think about on a 20. I have 16-inch Wheel Vintiques in a 5 on 5 pattern on my '96 GMC 2WD. I used hot rod trim rings, but I will probably go back and get the OEM-style.

As for center caps, I also think that the OEM-style caps would be a no-brainer. There are several styles that fit the current crop of rally wheels. If you create a new-size cap requirement, you're looking at a limited market. If the caps currently available can be used, the market is much larger.

A painted wheel is always an option. Having a chrome lip would be a nice touch, too, but would add to the cost of the wheels. With no 20-inch trim rings available to my knowledge, the chrome would look nice, with a painted center, or powder-coated. Powder-coating is my preference, but chipping is always a possiblility when someone pops a cap off of it. Paint is even more prone to be marred, when you pop a center cap. Just no way around it...that I have found.

Good luck on your endeavour.

Re: 20" Truck Rally Wheels

I'd be interested if they look EXACTLY like stock rallys only 20". Otherwise, they'll just be another custom wheel. Wouldn't want to pay more $ than a set of Rev Classic 20's ($800 and change).
