Installed New Carpet and New Kick Panel Speakers Today
1 Attachment(s)
I finally got around to installing new carpet to replace my old sun faded carpet. Took a few hours, wasn't too hard since I've pulled the seat out a few times before along with pulling the tank before too so I knew what to expect. Carpet seemed decent quality. Was ACC brand I think. No holes pre cut. Even the high beam switch. I just laid the old carpet over the new one and carefully cut the holes with a new blade in my box cutter. Used an ice pick for the door sill screw holes. It still needs to relax a little as its new and stiff but looks pretty dang good and has no bunching.
Replaced my kick panel custom auto sound "premium" speakers (total garbage) with some 300 watt Kicker 6.5's. Sound much better! Still need to add an under seat sub eventually. Also bought some matching GM original reproduction style bow tie floor mats for anyone who is curious how they look. Will post another pic tomorrow showing those and the new speakers and with the seat re-installed. It's already dark outside. If any first time carpet replacers need to install carpet feel free to ask installation questions. Im not a pro, but I now can add this to my classic truck repair resume LOL. It's pretty easy and straight forward. Here's a pic!! |

Re: Installed New Carpet and New Kick Panel Speakers Today
Your carpet looks great! I laid out my ACC carpet today and it seems very stiff and bunches up at the transmission hump. If I flatten it out over the hump I'm afraid I'll have to trim some on the sides by the doors. Did you have to trim any off of the sides?
Thanks! |
Re: Installed New Carpet and New Kick Panel Speakers Today
Nope didn't have to trim anything. The edges tucked into the door sill channel otherwise I would've had to trim.

Looks great. This is my next project.
Did you put any kind of sound deadner underneath? Did you glue it down? Thanks |

No I probably should of, but I didn't have any before so....oh well... No I just laid in place and used the door sills and seat belt brackets and seat bolts to hold it in place. |

They are from Classic Parts, but I think they are custom auto sound brand. In hindsight, I should of just bought the blank kick panels and bought my own speakers because even though I bought the "premium" speakers they aren't great. I just bought some $55 kickers that are way better, not excellent but much better for the money. I think the head unit may not be all that great either maybe. It does sound good though, has aux, usb and blutooth and maintains the original look so I guess it's a trade off for looks over perfect sound quality. You can buy the kick panels here w/ speakers, but you can find the panels without speakers elsewhere for much cheaper : http://www.classicparts.com/1967-72-.../#.Vw0VmaQrLcs |

Re: Installed New Carpet and New Kick Panel Speakers Today
Very nice. Definitely on my list to do soon. questions. where did you get the floor mats? does the stereo have a digital readout when turned on or how does that part of it work? Choosing between aux and whatnot. whered you get it also? I have been looking into one like that but there are many brands. Maybe a quick write up about it would be nice. Thanks and your new interior looks great!

Thanks!!! I got the floor mats from Classic Parts, kinda pricey but I wanted something that matched and looked correct. They come in all the interior colors, this is the dk blue, mine is the light blue : http://www.classicparts.com/1947-98-.../#.Vw0fI6QrLcs The stereo is a slide bar radio, so it looks original and then you can slide the bar over to reveal a digital read out behind. http://www.casmfg.com/Chevy%20Truck%...20Slidebar.htm It has AUX and USB and I also bought the BLUKIT which makes it blutooth. It does the job, probably not super quality but not bad...I think all the choices are kinda the same quality with the exception of one brand I've seen that looks really original and is like $600!!! I forgot the brand.... I haven't had any problems with it....It always works when I turn it on....I had an original AM only radio that wasn't working when I bought the truck and the antenna was deleted by a previous owner and the antenna hole was filled in on the cowl. I bought a universal hide away antenna and it works great even while hidden under the dash for the FM stations, but I can't get any AM stations to come through unless I hold it up up near the head liner LOL....so I just use my IheartRadio app on my phone and go through Blutooth to listen to my local AM stations if needed. Im not sorry I bought it, but I might have saved up to get the $600 unit, although I think it doesn't have blutooth which is an absolute must for me!! |
