1990-2002

Are there if any differences in a 1990 5 spd tranny and transfercase and a 2002 model, I'm not up to spec on the newer stuff, my son is looking at a 1990 setup for his 2002 truck....

Yes, both are different. The 90 most likely has a 5LM60, but it could be an HM290. The transfer case should be a 241.

The 02 would have an NV3500. The transfer case would be a 261.

The nv3500 came out in 93, and went through a lot of changes in 96. I would look for one out of a 99 or newer truck. It will be a bolt in without modifications. The 261 came out in 99.

It's pretty uncommon for a transmission and transfer case to go out at the same time. What happened?

he did some trading on a gun for a truck, the tranny in the truck needs some new forks or something, the guy he got it from said it's hard to shift and it won't go in reverse. He came across the 90 setup for 125 bucks and was just wondering about it, he also needs a drive shaft for it...
