Re: 6 cylinder engine decode

According to my LMC catalog the 6 cylinder has a pad on the right side of the engine near the distributer with the engine numbers stamped.

1965 230 CID TA, TE, TG
1965 292 CID UH, UT

Which to buy: 236 vs 260 6 cylinder

Can anyone offer advice between purchasing a 65 230 vs 260 engine? What's good vs bad between the two. Which has better history etc.

I'm going to back it up with a three speed column shift set up.

thank you!

I think you mean 230 and 250 engine.

Larger displacement is the only real advantage between the two. I'd choose the better deal without worrying about the size so much. Both are smooth runners and very durable.

Yes, I'm sorry I meant 230 and 250.

65 and newer both have side mounts which is what I need. Just looking for a good strong motor to putter the truck for now. I kinda like the idea of going with what came with the truck for now.......

it seems someone else has had a similar problem with that number on the block :

this guy had that first number 3, turn out to be an 8(the rest is the same) :

I agree about the difference being minor. I have had both in the same truck, and could tell little difference between the two.
