Truck Grounding
 

I own a 1982 Chevy C10 pick up with a 350 in it. It cranks up without any issues, but none of the electrical systems seem to work. None of lighting (headlights, turn signals, back up lighting, stop light and everything under the dash) works. All the fuses are good and then I used a test light connected to the battery to see if there was a short. As I pulled each fuse out, the test light stayed on indicating a short somewhere, but that didn't help. Then I did a visual check of all the wiring, checked for loose connections and also to see if there were any wire grounding out somewhere all to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go from here?

I'd check and clean all your grounds. Best way to do this is with a multi meter. There are several YouTube videos on how to do this. You basically check the resistance from your negative post on your battery to where your ground locations are. Also dielectric grease is your friend to help prevent future issues.

Sounds like maybe part of the fuse block is dead. Not sure on ' 82, but know on like an '85 it has a junction block on firewall ... is there any main wires there not connected? Or wires to/from it burnt (maybe a fusible link)?

Run a ground wire from the battery and hook it to a ground inside the truck to check the bulkhead at the firewall.

I'm not sure how to check the bulkhead, I'm still learning how to use a multimeter.

I separated the fuse block from the bulkhead wiring and found quite a bit of gunk. Attempted to spray it down with carb cleaner, but it didn't anything to dissolve it. Do you of anything that could dissolve that gunk?

Also, I think I did find a bad fusible link. Does it have a thick one inch long cylinder around the wire?[IMG][IMG]IMG_20180120_155126657[/IMG][/IMG]
