Blazer and towbar:
Has anyone towbar'd a blazer. In other words the blazer was being towed with a towbar, the blazer wasn't the one doing the towing.
If so, did it track ok? Also, what size tires did the blazer have? And was it's suspension stock? |
Re: Blazer and towbar:
I bought the regular old towbar they have at Advance Auto (can't recall the name, blue box) for $100 or so. I used it to tow my '75 Blazer home about 30 miles , I was towing it behind my '84 c30 dually, the dually had a worn out sbc 350/turbo 350 tranny.
It went great, despite everyone's warnings of rent a trailer it did fantastic. Tracked great, manuevered great, braked great. No problems at all, did a mix of country roads at 35-40mph, alittle highway at 55mph, and some city stop and go. Had a couple steep hills thrown in. I was towing off the bumper with a ball even, no problems. I would not hesitate to tow it an extended distance again. Note, I did undo the front and rear driveshafts from the axles, also I left the steering wheel unlocked. |
Re: Blazer and towbar:
A buddy of mine borrowed my towbar to tow his M1009 home after he killed the IP.
He hauled it about 100 miles down mostly backroads with a 90's F-150. No problems. He didn't remove any driveshafts, just made sure to put the transfer case in neutral. |
