Finally thinking of drum to disk conversion

Thinking of converting this old 68 GMC to 6 lug disk brakes as soon as I can free up some cash. While looking online I see prices vary but it seems that around $700 or so ought to do it. There's a note on some kits that say "original wheels may not work."

Anybody know what that means? I'd like to keep the original 6 lug wheels all around if possible.

Beware, not all 6 lug wheels will work with the 6 lug disc conversion. You might post a picture of both sides of your wheels here. Experts here will know if your wheels are good to go, for disc brakes...

or source a set of 6 lug rallyes for your truck.

I'll do some more research. It's not completely stock now since I added power steering and power brakes, but I wanted to keep it as stock looking as possible by using the original rims. May have to rethink that.

Folks here have really documented this topic. I opted to switch the crossmember on my '70 to a '72 so it would take all stock '72 disc brake parts. A lot of work. I'm happy with the results, but not sure I'd do it that way again. I did it to also get 5-lug wheels.

But you can use a later rotor and keep the six-lug wheels. Others far wiser than I have amazingly documented everything somewhere on this site.

I think I've finally collected the funds for the drum to disc conversion. I'm thinking of the Summit conversion kit below. If any one has bought this kit let me know if there are any pros or cons to this kit. Thanks.
